Henry Cecil's Panoptic ran a promising debut
Three horses that have recently caught the eye of Timeform's reporters...
"Tiddliwinks shaped well on return from a break at York recently, and he looks set to take advantage of his lower turf mark"
Tiddliwinks shaped well on return from a break at York recently, and he looks set to take advantage of his lower turf mark. He made rapid progress over the winter on the all-weather, winning four races as he developed into a useful performer, and his encouraging effort at York indicates that he will prove equally effective on turf. After a slow start (late removal of blindfold), Tiddliwinks' effort to gradually get on terms, coupled with his 3-month absence, told late in the race, and he will almost certainly come on for the run. Although he has won at seven furlongs, six furlongs suits him better. K.Ryan.
Ruth Carr has shown an impressive ability to rejuvenate seemingly regressive horses, and recent recruit Orpsie Boy looks set win more races after breaking a long losing run on his second start for Carr at Pontefract last time. Orpsie Boy's mark has plummeted, yet he seems to retain most of his ability, may well thrive for his new yard. It would be no surprise, therefore, to see him in the winner's enclosure a few more times during the remainder of the season. Mrs. Ruth Carr.
Panoptic failed to justify strong market support when sixth on her debut in a Newmarket maiden, but this Dubawi filly looks the type to improve significantly for her first start. She raced freely through the early part of the race (should settle better with experience), and paid the price for that when tiring up the hill, having travelled powerfully until over 2f out. She will most probably show marked improvement on her next start, particularly given that she looked beforehand as if she'd tighten up for her debut. A drop to six furlongs may help her given the way she travelled, and Panoptic is worth strong consideration next time out. Henry Cecil.
