Lillie Langtry asserts from Gile Na Greine

Timeform's Perspective entries on the Coronation Stakes, won by Lillie Langtry...

"LILLIE LANGTRY is the first three-year-old filly at this trip to truly stamp her authority, putting up the best performance yet in the division, and this mightn't be her limit, either, only just getting going after her setback"

A race that featured fillies from all of the key form lines, with principals from the major European Guineas brought together, and though Special Duty (winner of the English and French versions) and Bethrah (winner of the Irish) were absent, this still gives a good guide to the current pecking order, the race essentially clean, for all it proved a disadvantage to be held up, Lillie Langtry's effort the best in the division so far.

LILLIE LANGTRY is the first three-year-old filly at this trip to truly stamp her authority, putting up the best performance yet in the division, and this mightn't be her limit, either, only just getting going after her setback. She'll stay further than a mile, underlined by how she went about this, niggled sooner than most in mid-field but always responding and in control through the final furlong. She'll face stiffer tasks against her elders but, tough and likeable, is the sort to give a good account.

GILE NA GREINE showed her Irish Guineas run to be all wrong and that she wasn't flattered at Newmarket at all, improving even on that here, with a positive ride seeming to suit, going with zest and digging in once passed. She will stay a mile and a quarter, possibly ready for it in fact.

JACQUELINE QUEST still had something to prove after the Guineas at Newmarket, given an apparent draw bias that day, and whilst not gaining compensation for her classic disqualification, she did confirm herself a smart filly, forced to switch wide as the winner was winding up from a similar position, though she again showed a quirky side, drifting both ways this time.

MUSIC SHOW is amongst the best of the division, more so than she's actually shown, certainly at Newmarket and again here, caught widest of all from stall two and also too far back, making up a lot of ground but too late.

EVADING TEMPETE brought smart form from abroad and wasn't at all discredited in the face of her stiffest task yet, starting further back than ideal and closing gradually. She'll stay a mile and a quarter on this evidence.

LADY OF THE DESERT is still to conclusively prove herself at this trip, the French Guineas not a true test, and she wasn't able to sustain a move forward after three furlongs out, shaping as if remaining in form.

ANNA SALAI's two previous efforts both promised more and the Irish Guineas form was boosted by others here, but she perhaps hasn't come out of that quite so well, rather dull in her coat this day and never really travelling. It's too soon to write her off, especially with a mile and a quarter to try.

FAMOUS had already looked to have had her limitations exposed and ran about as well as could have been expected, the headgear making little difference.

SENT FROM HEAVEN was probably most flattered of the lot at Newmarket (led on the stand side) and never even threatened to get into this, admittedly from a poor position after missing the break (pulled hard early).

PUFF's Fred Darling win hasn't worked out but she did enough here to suggest she's full value for that improvement, keeping tabs with the principals until over one furlong out and not staying the longer trip.

TABASSUM was making a belated return but may not have trained on, anyway, small as she is, and she folded tamely after failing to settle close up. She was impressive when successful on her first two starts last season, latterly in the Oh So Sharp Stakes.

CHACHAMAIDEE showed at York that she's matured and was simply aimed too high here.

ELECTRIC FEEL needs a lower level but had something wrong in any case, weakening when hampered.
