Farewell Brigadier...

It's back to the mansion for one of betting.betfair's earliest signings...
He was a controversial signing, his opinions were strident and his lays weren't always successful but it's with a heavy heart that betting.betfair bids farewell to The Brigadier.
He's been with us from the outset, firing off betting missives from his country pile straight into the heart of horseracing.
Every day a new lay would land in our inbox from Godfrey Hoopington-Charles and, dutifully, and with great care we would post that up for you to follow or - if you were so-minded - perhaps to back his selection.
But he's been put out to pasture now as we attempt to shake up our site with 2008 on the horizon, so it's goodbye Brigadier. Farewell and thanks. Keep on betting old boy. And remember a rogue is a rogue whatever they try to tell you...

sorry to see the old bloke go.
as you say he wasnt always sucessful but who is and he did have some great winning streaks.
i certainly found his advice profitable and he was always entertaining and i for one will certainly miss his input.
sadly no more cretinous imbeciles to lay.

A pity the brig has gone. One of the most sensible and well informed pundits.
He was brave enough to post short priced lays and offer cogent reasons for doing so.
good luck Brig.

Thanks very much guys. Good luck with your future punting.

Yes, it's a shame there wont be anymore posts from The Brig, I now feel less inclined to visit this site everyday to be honest.
As said, you took on short priced favs, sometimes got burnt, but your advice and reasoning was sound.
Perhaps there is somewhere else we can all enjoy the brigs selections? Hopefully i shall find this place - off to google !
Thanks,

I fully agree with the above sentiments. The Brigadier will be sorely missed by myself.
I lay horses but can genuinely say that I learnt a lot from reading The Brigs daily write ups and he was the one pundit on here that could make a proper in depth reasoned arguement for his selection. Nick Shiamborous does very well but I dont feel I have learnt anything from him.
Of course he layed horses that won sometimes (who can't say that) but the reality is that his lays were usually the horses who the majority of people thought were certainties (racing post tipsters, newspaper tipsters, betfair forum tipsters, studio experts etc etc etc).
The Brig was a brilliant read and as far as Im concerned this site has taken a backwards step since he left. I dont see why you couldnt keep The Brig alongside Nick and the new Laydough service but as I am finding out with time, Betfair rarely listens to its customers.
Happy retirement Brig, you were quite simply a better read and more original than anyone else in the racing media and its a shocker that the cretins at Betfair have got rid of you.
Respect to The Brig and his nerves of steel.

Thanks Tim and Mark for kind words. I have created my own blog. No need to search the web Mark, here is the address. It's a totally free blog with no advertising and will have my best short priced lay of the day on with full reasoning for the lay.

Great to see you have your own blog Brig. I will be a very frequent reader. As others have said you will be sadly missed here. Your knowledge and race analysis taught me much.
I am miffed as to why Betfair have made you move on. Can Betfair management please shed some light on this matter. I am all for site improvement but IMHO bannishing The Brig is not a step forward. Many came to this site just to read his thoughts. Your reason maybe quite valid. I look forward to a respone.
Happy festive season to you all and may the new year bring much joy, good health and winners.
Cheers Mal
