Marchand D'Or lands big race - but it's mighty close

Today's Darley July Cup proved to be a fascinating and fluctuating betting heat on Betfair, with four horses trading at odds-on and winner Marchand D'Or drifting to [12.0] on the exchange before his late charge.

US Ranger was backed at [1.25] in-running, Kingsgate Native [1.5] and War Artist [1.78], while Marchand D'Or quickly went to 1.01 in the photo finish betting.

Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "That was a top class betting contest in every respect - it is not often that you get four horses being backed at odds-on in any race, let alone a Group 1."
