A listed handicap hurdle run at Sandown in early December over a distance of two miles, this race is always a hot betting contest in which many runners at decent odds have their supporters.

The record of favourites in this event is dismal, with no horse heading the betting having prevailed for many years, but their have been plenty of single-figure odds winners, suggesting that fancied runners (if not the favourite) have to be placed on any betting short-list.

Trainer Gary Moore has landed the prize twice in the last six years, Verasi (2005) scoring at odds of 12/1 and Rob Leach (2001) at odds of 7/1, so Moore's runners in the race are certainly worth a second glance in the betting.

Jockey Ruby Walsh is another man to consider when planning a bet, having won two of the last four renewals of the race on horses prominent in the betting list.

It's worth bearing in mind when considering a bet that the ground is often very testing at Sandown and the uphill finish places stamina very much at a premium, so horses proven beyond two miles are well worth having on your side when perusing the odds and planning your bet.
