O'Brien's 2,000 Guineas contender takes a walk in the Classic betting
He may have been named after the bringer of rain, but the irony is that with every drop that is currently falling at Newmarket today, so do the apparent prospects of Jupiter Pluvius winning the 2,000 Guineas.
Well, at least, according to the Betfair market anyway, where the unbeaten colt is currently out to 18-1 for the Classic, having started the day as short as 7-1 with other bookmakers.
However, it is perhaps not the recent downpours that are causing the drift - though, his Group 3 win last October came on fast ground - but the fact that stable jockey Johnny Murtagh has been reported as likely to ride Henrythenavigator, who has shortened from 26-1 on Betfair yesterday morning into 16-1.
Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "The vibes for Jupiter Pluvius are certainly not as strong as they might be, and the Betfair price truly reflects that.
"But if the rain continues, and the forecasts suggest it will, then the likes of Raven's Pass could well take a similar walk in the market."
