A Grade 2 event run over two miles at Sandown in December, this high class contest has provided rich pickings for those betting on the market leaders, as it is rarely won by any horse trading at odds above 4/1.
The race provides a solid form and betting indicator to the leading two-mile novice chaser in Britain and often has a serious impact on ante-post odds and betting lists for the Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham the following March. However, the record of winners of the 'HenryVIII' at Cheltenham itself is relatively poor, with only Martin Pipe's Contraband (2004) having gone on to win the championship race.
Trainer Henrietta Knight has delighted her followers with two winners of the race in the last six years - Racing Demon and Impek - both carrying heavy betting support and starting favourite at short odds, so any representative from her stable must be respected when planning a bet on the race.
