It all went wrong for Robin Keck today...
Imagine if you will, this betfair columnist lying naked in a bath. Rather than a pleasing array of bubbles gliding across temperate water, imagine instead a bath of blood. Whilst you may be hitting the escape key with all your might I cannot escape (like it?) the clear and demonstrable truth that I laid Paco Boy (place), Scenic Blast (place), Mastercraftsman (win) and backed Bordorlescott (place).
Just when I thought things couldn't get much worse I backed Splash the Cash at Thirsk who went wrong and was sadly put down. That puts my day in perspective and the connections have my sympathies .
I'd love to talk you through the rationale for all my bets....Paco Boy won't stay a mile blah blah blah... but in truth it just seems silly when they've already lost. What is it with me and high grade/glamorous festivals? I go to Cheltenham with a nice pot every year thanks to some low grade fare at Southwell and Hexham etc but still come home potless.
I was on fire yesterday at Sedgefield backing Toulouse Express, Uptown Lad (in-running when tailing off last) before going all in on Argentine at Carlisle. I had that weird feeling that only a punter really understands that I was making the horses run well...when I hit the blue button the jockey pats the horse and whispers "today's the day".
Well yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away but as I lie on the Ascot turf they are but a blurred memory and I need to sober up for the long journey home. So that's it. I've learned my lesson. If low grade racing is my niche then that's just dandy and I'm not going to have another bet all week. Except laying Yeats obviously.
By the way, if anyone has had a betting day like mine you can get it all back at a stroke on Silver Steel in the 8:45pm at Newton Abbott. The trainer is hotter than Vindaloo thanks to a recent stable move next to the M6 in my home county of Cheshire. As we all know the return from a bet at [3.5] is just as sweet when the Queen isn't watching.
