Amongst the most competitive handicaps and most hotly contested betting events of the National Hunt season, Kempton's Racing Post Chase is a three-mile race that can have a significant impact on the ante-post odds betting lists for the Grand National.
First run in 1988, the race immediately had an impact on the Grand National betting market when Rhyme'n Reason went on to land the Aintree marathon. Eight years later, Rough Quest repeated the feat giving the race even more kudos.
This Grade 3 event has been very much a happy hunting ground for jockey Richard Johnson, who has won the race no less than four times in the last eight years. He is definitely a man to have on your side when considering a bet on the race, regardless of the odds on offer.
For a very competitive handicap, the Racing Post Chase has produced few surprise winners, with no recent winner returning at odds of bigger than 8/1, suggesting that betting attention may be best focused on the first two or three in the betting market.
