A rock solid trial for the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham festival, the Adonis Hurdle, run at Kempton in early February, is a strong betting heat that has a serious impact on the ante-post odds for the big race six weeks later.
Since 1994, four winners of this contest have gone on to Cheltenham glory (Mysilv, Katarino, Snow Drop and Penzance) making this the singularly most significant 'Triumph' trial on the racing calendar.
Those considering a bet on the race would be wise to pay close attention to runners from the yards of Francois Doumen (3 wins), Nicky Henderson (2 wins) and Alan King (2 wins in the last four years) regardless of the odds on offer in the betting ring. These three fine trainers appear to target this race as a suitable stepping stone for their Cheltenham candidates.
Three of the last four favourites (at odds of 2/1, 10/11 & 5/2) have obliged the betting public, making this a strong race for those wishing to back the horse at the head of the betting list.
