One of the most valuable handicap hurdles in Europe, Ascot's Ladbroke Handicap Hurdle (listed) is a hot betting race where most of the field are available at tempting odds in the betting.
The race is run over two miles (often in testing conditions) and has been won for the last two seasons by representatives from the Pipe stable - in 2006 Acambo (trained by David Pipe) scored at odds of 7/1, and a year earlier Tamarinbleu (trained by David's now retired father Martin) won at odds of 14/1.
The race has proved to be a graveyard for horses topping the betting list with no favourite obliging in recent memory, so bets are best considered for those horses near to, but not at the top of the betting forecast.
It is though rare for a horse outside of the top yards to score in the 'Ladbroke ' and the odds are that once again the winner will come from one of the more powerful battalions. A good run in the Ladbroke could well shake up the ante-post odds and betting lists for other major winter handicaps, such as Newbury's Totesport Trophy.
