Andrew Hughes rounds up the top betting from The Curragh to York and all games in between...

Sunday May 24

Curragh

3:05 Tattersalls Gold Cup
A top quality race that always attracts a certain class of stamina laden horse, this Group One contest is run over a little further than ten furlongs and often used as a starting point for an ambitious middle distance campaign.

3:40 Irish 1000 Guineas
The showpiece event and always an enthralling betting event. As usual a number of those fillies who fell short in the Newmarket Guineas go for consolation here, including runner up Cuis Ghaire and Super Sleuth, who was placed third.

4:45 Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes
An intriguing Group Three event confined to the Classic generation and featuring a number of horses being aimed at the French or Irish Derbies. The forecast heavy going should sort the non-stayers from the stayers.

Monday May 25

Goodwood

3:10 Festival Stakes
Where better to watch your Bank Holiday racing than the beautiful Sussex course. Though the card is modest, it does feature this ten furlong Listed event that has attracted a big field, including Luca Cumani's Cima de Triomphe.

Redcar

3:55 Zetland Gold Cup
A great betting heat, this Heritage Handicap over ten furlongs features a big field of handicappers with the usual mixture of veterans and progressive youngsters to sift through.

Wednesday May 27

Beverley

7:20 Hilary Needler Trophy
A famous race for two-year-olds, this is an entertaining slog up the cambered incline for some promising young fillies. As ever at this course, the draw will be crucial and keep your eye out for news of any watering.

Thursday May 28

Sandown

6:35 National Stakes
A high quality evening meeting gets underway with this fiercely contested Listed sprint for two year olds, many of which will be aimed at Ascot.

7:10 Henry II Stakes
A solid old fashioned Group race, run over two miles and although there is isn't always a huge field for this, it provides a decent test and a thorough examination of a horse's Gold Cup credentials.

7:45 Brigadier Gerard Stakes
This Group Three ten furlong race isn't quite as illustrious as it once was but it does offer a chance for some unproven middle distance types to shine.

8:20 Heron Stakes
A Listed contest for three year old milers, this is worth watching as it has from time to time attracted its share of useful animals with potential.

Saturday May 30

Goodwood

3:25 On The House Stakes
Another Listed event, this one run over an undulating mile and open to all ages. Not the classiest Goodwood event you will see but a tidy little contest and worth studying.

Haydock

2:05 Achilles Stakes
The first of a number of sprint events on this solid looking Haydock card, this Listed race is confined to two year olds.

2:35 Pinnacle Stakes
Just shy of a mile and a half, this Listed race is confined to older fillies and mares and though there may not be too many runners going to post, they should be fully exposed and offer one of the easiest races to crack this afternoon.

3:05 Timeform Jury Stakes
A quality Group Three event, this seven-furlong dash is a decent audition for those horses being readied for a crack at the Wokingham. Seven furlongs though is a specialist distance and as such this race offers a fascinating puzzle for punters to solve.

4:10 Sandy Lane Stakes
This is a cracking Listed dash for progressive young sprinters run over the straight six furlongs and confined to three year olds. Potential sprint stars of the future could be on show.

York

3:15 Stow Family Law LLP Grand Cup
Back to the Knavesmire for an earthy looking Saturday card, featuring this Listed event for older horses. Run over a mile and six furlongs, it is a welcome opportunity for some decent staying types to show what they can do.

3:45 Knavesmire Sprint Cup
A real Saturday betting event, this Heritage Handicap is a frenetic cavalry charge down the straight five furlong course, featuring a packed field of pacy horses and the usual problems for punters to solve regarding the effect of the draw and where the pace in the race might be.
