The 1000 Guineas is likely to be a closer affair than Saturday's 2000 renewal
"Since the race began there have been 80 winning favourites from the 197 runnings."
It's the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday and we can be almost certain that we won't see anything like the demolition job that Frankel did to the colts on Saturday. Nineteen fillies go to post but which ones do the stats point to? David Stewart reports.
15:15 - 1000 Guineas
Flashstats
Favourites have a good recent record with three winners from the last four runnings but on a larger sample there are only the same three winners from the last 10 races. Since the race began there have been 80 winning favourites from the 197 runnings. The problem this year is trying to work out the favourite in advance. Moonlight Cloud is the overnight favourite but such is the open market it would be no surprise to see her usurped.
French trained runners (16 winners) have enjoyed more success than Irish raiders (seven winners) since 1900 and both countries are well represented in this year's renewal.
A prior win coming into the race is a positive. There are no representatives from the most successful current trainer and jockey in the 1000 Guineas - Henry Cecil and Kieren Fallon.
Contenders: Empowering, Misty For Me, Moonlight Cloud, Nova Hawk
16:25 Makfi Future Stars Maiden Stakes
Flashstats
This race is usually won by a debutant and the market leader has a poor recent record with just two wins from the last 10 renewals. As such there are reasons for taking on the likely market leader Tell Dad who was narrowly beaten over course and distance on debut.
