Andrew Hughes rates all the runners from Wednesday's races at Goodwood...
2:15 - Invesco Perpetual Goodwood Stakes (Class 2 Handicap), 2m5f
A packed field of handicappers for one of the longest races in the calendar. Very few flat horses will have proven their stamina for this. La Vecchia Scuola appeared in the Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham festival and has been very busy but takes her racing well and is in fine form. John Terry is top on speed ratings, but hasn't yet shown he can stay this far and Som Tala was fifth here last year.

2:50 - Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes (Group 2), 7f
A two-year-old contest with an impeccable record for producing top class winners. Sayif is a scopey, well-regarded sort and ran a creditable second in the July Cup despite running green that day. Firth Of Fifth won the Superlative Stakes but is exposed and vulnerable to improving horses such as Lord Shanakill who was third in the Coventry.

3:30 - BGC Sussex Stakes (Group 1), 8f
Some of the best of the country's milers lock horns in a valuable Group One. Class will out and three-year-olds need to show themselves among the very best of their age group. Dual Guineas and St James Palace winner Henrythenavigator is likely to be red hot favourite ahead of old rival Raven's Pass. Winker Watson is the best of the three-year-olds, but his delayed seasonal debut in the Prix Jean Prat was a disappointing effort. Windsor Palace is unraced at three but would have to be a superstar to improve enough to take this.

4:05 - Sir Peter O'Sullevan Voice Of Racing Stakes (Heritage Handicap), 1m4f
Named in honour of the great man's 90th birthday, there will be no quarter given in a very competitive three-year-old handicap. Colony is bound to be popular in the betting after his success in the King George V, but Mark Johnston has four entrants including the consistent Love Galore and the in-form Always Bold who stays all day.

4:40 - Wetherbys Bank EBF Fillies Stakes (Class 2 Handicap), 1m1f
Another fiercely competitive handicap with a number of lightly raced three-year-olds and no entrants over the age of four. Perfect Star likes to bowl along in front but this is her seasonal debut. Potential improvers include the lightly raced Asfurah's Dream and Maryqueenofscots, a daughter of Fantastic Light who hasn't been seen since winning her maiden last year.

5:15 - Winston's Wish Maiden Fillies Stakes (Class 2), 6f
A modest looking maiden with those who've run looking fairly ordinary. Victoria Sponge is about the best of those with racecourse experience, her speed rating achieved despite running green on her debut. Of the unraced horses, Dane's World is a daughter of Danehill Dancer and has a speedy pedigree.

5:50 - Kennels EBF Classified Stakes (Class 2), 7f
The usual mixed bag that probably won't take much winning. Monkey Glas has improved steadily this winter but has been off since April whilst Flawed Genius is about the best of the youngsters but seems to have gone off the boil.
