Frankie Dettori and Schiaparelli lit up day three of Glorious Goodwood before the rain intervened, but can he do the same with a clutch of fancied rides for Godolphin on day four? Racing UK analyst Graham Cunningham has his doubts and is looking more towards Ryan Moore and Jimmy Fortune to pay the Friday expenses.

A complex opener in which two angles appeal. The first involves backing Warringah at around [6.0] with a view to laying off in running at around half those odds. Sir Michael Stoute's gelding takes a step up in class here but has earned the rise following a thumping handicap success at Windsor off 91 and a cracking effort in defeat at York off 101. Ryan Moore looks sure to have him on the pace from a very early stage and his freewheeling style looks highly likely to stand him in good stead.

By contrast, Crime Scene appeals as a possible weak link here. Granted, he lines up on the back of a decisive Listed win at Newbury, but he was allowed an easy lead there. Add in two heavy defeats on this course and a hit and miss overall profile and he starts to take on the appearance of a suitable place lay candidate.

It's hard to be dogmatic here given that a clutch of horses may well turn out again having contested the final race on Thursday.

That said, a few points are worth making. First, Parisian Pyramid showed brazen speed to win here last year and has turned in a series of cracking efforts in top handicaps this term. He's drawn to attack close to the stand rail and rates high on my shortlist.

The same applies to Everymanforhimself, who is drawn towards the centre in stall 17, while Northern Dare won emphatically at Pontefract and is another strong player.

Harrison George often attracts considerable support and will probably do so again after a fine effort at Pontefract on Sunday, but he took time to find full stride when just behind the placed horses in this race last year and his tendency to race lazily early on remains a concern.

Artistic License is another who can get behind and looks place lay material as a result. And the same applies to Spirit of Sharjah, who seemed suited by being dropped out over seven at Epsom and will find things happening much more quickly if similar tactics are adopted here.

Granted, Nigel Tinkler's name isn't normally associated with Glorious Goodwood success. However, the fact that Webbow showed improvement to be pipped in a useful York handicap after the weights for this race came out means he is well treated and he has already shown he gets on very well with the promising Beuzelin. In short, his chance looks a fair bit better than the Betfair market suggests.

Of the rest, Cloudy Start has a plum draw and a strong chance after a sequence of fine efforts, but anyone tempted to steam into Extraterrestrial and Kavachi solely on the basis of the draw should also note that they are holdup horses with the potential to find trouble if kept to the inner in the straight.

Acrostic defied a low draw at Sandown last time, but a low draw at Sandown is less daunting than a low draw here. Lovelace is also drawn worryingly low, but he's one from one here and the fact that he "won" the race on the far side in the Hunt Cup at Ascot marks him out as one with enough abilty to go close at a big price if Spencer can find the right seam in the straight.

It's all about finding the most progressive runner here and I tend to agree with the market in that Showcasing and Dick Turpin are the likeliest lads on show.

Dick Turpin bolted up on his debut at Windsor and handled stronger rivals with aplomb at Salisbury when storming well clear under hand riding in a fast time. He's plainly a danger to all here, but Showcasing has created every bit as strong an impression on his two starts and he gets a narrow vote to enhance John Gosden's good record in this race.

Showcasing shaped with abundant promise when pipped by the subsequent July Stakes hero Arcano at Newbury on his debut and duly built on that with a silky smooth Yarmouth win. He's a fluent mover with ample scope for improvement and this looks the ideal stage for him to establish himself as one of the best sprinting juveniles around this summer.
