Friday could be Goodwood's most "punter friendly" day

"Anyone looking for an alternative to Green Destiny at longer odds could do much worse than Highland Knight."

Glorious Goodwood's Friday card is perhaps the most punter friendly of a very tough week. Handicap good thing Green Destiny and unbeaten juvenile Harbour Watch are among the leading attractions as Timeform Radio Pundit Graham Cunningham runs the rule over the best of the action.

It's a case of whether you are for or against four key horses at Goodwood this Friday.

First up is Redwood, who bids to land the Glorious Stakes at 14:00 for the second year running.

On balance, I'm more with than against Barry Hills's horse as he seldom fails to give his running and doesn't have a penalty for last year's success.

However, this looks strong by Group 3 standards and Harris Tweed gets a narrow and fairly cautious vote to confirm the promise of a fine second behind the exciting Await The Dawn in Royal Ascot's Hardwicke Stakes.

His aggressive style gives him clear back to lay potential and he could be tough to peg back provided the likes of Jukebox Jury don't harry him hard in the early stages.

The 4lb penalty that Tazahum carries in the 14:35 isn't ideal but I'm still drawn towards Sir Michael Stoute's colt for three reasons.

First, he beat Neebras fair and square at Sandown two starts ago and looks capable of confirming the form.

Second, he left the strong impression he remains on the up when failing to stay over ten furlongs in a hot Group 3 at Ascot.

And third, with Neebras and the highly progressive Western Aristocrat ranged against him here Tazahum is trading at bigger than [5.0]. And that gives him each way mileage if all eight stand their ground.

The John Smith's Cup winner Green Destiny is clearly well treated for the Totesport Mile at 15:10 and even back at a mile it's hard too find too many chinks in his armour.

That said, traffic problems could be an issue if he doesn't find a handy position from his inside draw and anyone looking for an alternative at much longer odds could do much worse than Highland Knight.

Andrew Balding's gelding has been thriving in similar contests this summer and the turn of foot he showed to forge clear of a strong field at Sandown on Eclipse day suggests he hasn't done improving yet.

Last but not least this Friday we have the exciting Harbour Watch in the Richmond Stakes at 15:45.

The price is going to be tight - and I won't be going overboard if he starts odds on - but Richard Hannon's strapping colt left a striking impression in trouncing several winners at Newmarket and that form was given a timely boost when the runn-up Burwaaz ran a screamer in Tuesday's Molecomb Stakes.

Friday Recommended Bets
14:00 Back Harris Tweed
14:35 Back Tazahum each way
15:10 Back Highland Knight each way
15:45 Back Harbour Watch
