A Grade 2 event that has proved a sound guide to the subsequent Triumph Hurdle form at the Festival meeting six weeks later, this two-mile-one-and-a-half-furlong event is well worth considering when considering an ante-post bet on the feature juvenile contest.
Katchit landed some decent bets when heading the betting market and scoring for Alan King in 2007 and then went on to follow up in the 'Triumph' itself, giving this race a major profile boost. Robert Thornton's mount justified odds of 2/1 on the day, but the race has generally proved a tough place for those supporting the market leader, with winners at odds of 50/1 (Akilak) and (Moneytrain) 25/1 in the last four renewals shocking the betting public.
This race is also worth keeping a note of when looking further ahead to the big meeting at Aintree in April, as a number of horses who have performed with credit here have gone on to run as well - if not better - at the Liverpool circuit at decent odds.
