Newmarket Tips: The Fillies' Mile but not as we know it

Friday promises another great card at HQ (above)
"It's a tight call, but Fallen For You created a striking impression on debut and I take her to come out on top this time... "
The Group 1 test for juveniles has been switched from Ascot to Newmarket this year and Racing UK analyst Graham Cunningham feels Doncaster's May Hill Stakes holds the key as he covers all the best of the day two action.
Fallen can get off the canvas in the Fillies' Mile
Boxing fans will tell you that, by and large, rematches tend to go the way of the fighter who won the original contest.
Plenty of racing fans will feel the same way about round two between Lyric Of Light and Fallen For You in the featured Fillies' Mile this Friday - but I'm not so sure.
The first point to make about this Group 1 showdown is that Samitar and Semayyel - who finished well behind Lyric Of Light and Fallen For You in the May Hill at Donny - seem most unlikely to reverse the form.
The second point is that impeccably-bred maiden winners like Albamara and Firdaws are much harder to rule out with confidence.
But the most important point to make is that Lyric Of Light and Fallen For You set a high standard for the rest to match based on the way they forged clear of the pack at Doncaster.
There was a neck between them at the line, but that doesn't tell the full story as Fallen For You found it hard to find full stride because Lyric Of Light was drifting across her constantly in the final furlong.
It's a tight call, but Fallen For You created a striking impression on her debut and I take her to come out on top this time with the powerful and impressive Goodwood winner Swingland nominated as a worthy saver candidate at a much bigger price.
Tazahum to show his true colours in the Joel
The shape of the Joel Stakes at 14:25 makes a fair amount of appeal from a punting viewpoint with Tazahum and Ransom Note the pair to nose on.
Tazahum holds a solid chance on Timeform ratings and has given the impression there could well be more to come on both his last two starts, most recently using up plenty of energy to offset a wide draw at York when splitting Green Destiny and stablemate Dux Scholar in the Strensall Stakes.
Green Destiny and Dux Scholar have both given that form a very solid look in recent weeks and the way Tazahum travels through his races gives a broad hint that this step back to a mile could be ideal.
He's well worth an interest in a race where the former Group 1 winner Poet's Voice has questions to answer after a subdued return at Goodwood, while Ransom Note offers clear saver potential at longer odds.
Granted, this Charlie Hills-trained colt was well below par in France last time.
However, very deep ground was no good at all to him that day and his earlier second behind Twice Over in Group 2 company at York brings him right into the reckoning here.
Dark offers ample Promise for the Rosemary
The Oh So Sharp Stakes at 13:15 looks a little to tough for my liking, but there could be some value to be found by backing Dark Promise to land the Rosemary Stakes at 13:50.
Luca Cumani's Seta sets the form standard based on Timeform ratings here, but this flashy chestnut hasn't produced her very best in a while now and upgraded handicappers like Wake Up Call and Electra Star both need a clear career best to score at this level.
The reliable Soorah looks set to run her usual solid race and hit the frame, but Dark Promise still seems to be getting better at the age of four for Roger Varian based on her fine third behind King Torus in Listed company at Haydock last time.
Not for the first time, Dark Promise was sent for home a fair way out that day to make use of her strong galloping style.
It didn't quite pay off against two smart males, but Dark Promise is back in a race confined to her own sex this time and I reckon she can make the most of the opportunity to break her duck at this level.
