This Grade 2, two-and-a-half mile contest, is nearly always a high-class event that whets the appetite of the betting public for the big hurdles events to come later in the term.
France's Baracouda dominated the race at the start of the decade landing many serious bets at odds-on, and with the race normally attracting only a handful of elite runners, this is an event that sees significant betting interest both on the day and invariably leads to a shake-up in the ante-post odds betting markets for both the World Hurdle and the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.
The intermediate distance between the two championship events is an extra bonus to racing fans and makes betting all the more fascinating.
In 2006, former champion hurdler Hardy Eustace showed too much speed for subsequent World Hurdle runner-up Mighty Man, and a meeting of the two looks very much on the cards again ensuring another fascinating betting contest.
