Day three of the King George meeting and some more information that may be of help in solving today's punting puzzles, including speed figures for every horse.

There's no substitute for watching as much racing as you can, but it also helps to have some objective means of comparing one horse with another and speed figures are one way of doing this. Of course, they are only a starting point. You need to consider the other factors that may influence a horse's performance on any given day and exercise judgment. Punting is a craft, not a science and speed figures are merely one of the tools of the trade.

A tight affair and an opportunity for horses that have proven below top class to scrap for some prize money. Humungous was last seen finishing like a train in a Newbury handicap whilst Kaateb enjoyed making the running last time out in a first-time visor.

2:15 Casino At The Empire (Heritage Handicap) 12f

A solid contest that places a premium on stamina and experience of the rough and tumble of big field handicaps. Sugar Ray won the Duke Of Edinburgh at the Royal Meeting and bypassed the Old Newton Cup in favour of this race, so should be respected. Fourth behind him that day was Young Mick who is back on a good mark. Hatton Flight has notched a four-timer but this may be a step too far without his usual jockey and All The Good is highly rated on speed figures, but may just need the run on his seasonal debut.

A hugely enjoyable spectacle in which luck in running will play its part. With these sprinters taking it turns to beat one another, it can be a good idea to concentrate on recent form. Sohraab is certainly in fine fettle, having won last Saturday but though he relishes a fast run five furlongs, he will need the breaks to come. Holbeck Ghyll has proven most progressive this year though is not certain to appreciate this stiffer sprint course, a comment that also applies to the consistent Safari Mischief, who has done most of his winning on sharper courses.

A prestigious maiden race for unraced horses in which educated guesswork has to come into play. Bawaardi has a sprinting pedigree and comes from a yard with an excellent record in these contests.

4:00 Huawei Maiden Fillies' Stakes (Class 4) 8f

An ordinary maiden for three-year-old fillies. Queen's Speech is thoroughly exposed, as is Siyabona though the latter has shown more consistency. Basque Beauty is making a belated start as a three year old, having raced just once last season. A daughter of Nayef, she was once thought a possible for the French Oaks.

4:35 Cathay Pacific Airlines Handicap (Class 4) 12f

A moderately competitive handicap for three year olds, some of which could improve for the step up in distance. Craigstown has appeared very progressive, is well treated on his handicap debut and should relish the extra distance. Any Given Day is another improver but disappointed on fast going last time.
