Introduced in 2007 to Kempton's classy early-February meeting, the Anglo Irish Bank Novices Hurdle is a Grade 2 contest, run over two miles, that should provide some galloping clues and could influence the compilation of the ante-post odds betting lists for the Cheltenham Festival feature novice events in mid-March.
French import Shatabdi proved a fairly classy winner of the inaugural running, defying odds of 9/2 under Sam Waley-Cohen. Whilst she didn't go on to take her chance at Cheltenham, she nonetheless put up a solid display next time when just pipped at the post in a hot Aintree listed hurdle.
Kempton's flat, sharp circuit is in stark contrast to the undulating and demanding Cheltenham track, so those considering their bets in the longer range betting markets might not want to be taking any short odds, as the form between the two courses doesn't always equate as some might anticipate.
