A listed race run over two miles at Sandown's early-February meeting, the Agfa UK Hurdle is a hot betting heat that rarely attracts more than six runners, but is a useful guide to the Champion Hurdle aspirations of a number of leading contenders for the race.
From a betting point of view, the 'Agfa' is more likely to appeal to the more serious punters who are prepared to bet at odds-on, three of the last five winners having returned at odds of 1/3, 2/5 & 2/7 having been the subjects of significant betting interest.
In 2003, Philip Hobbs' Rooster Booster took the race before going on to Champion Hurdle glory five weeks later, and the contest can have a serious impact on the ante-post odds betting lists.
While in 2007, Detroit City justified long odds-on in this race and was then the subject of massive ante-post bets that saw him sent off a hot favourite for the championship event, but he failed to deliver finishing down the field.
