Drying ground to boost Brook bid

Ashley Brook's bid to win the Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Chase has been boosted by the drying ground at Cheltenham.
Trainer Kevin Bishop knows that overturning his stable-star's emphatic defeat by Well Chief on a very heavy surface at Newbury last month is no easy task, but he believes the nine-year-old wasn't his normal exuberant self on that occasion.
"I thought we ran about a stone below form last time out, but we're not making any excuses as Well Chief was very good and had more in the tank. I think Ashley Brook is probably at his most impressive on better ground," revealed Bishop.
Ashley Brook, a courageous one-length second to Contraband at the 2005 Festival in the 2m Irish Independent Arkle Challenge Trophy, went on to gain deserved compensation for that heart-breaking reverse by thrashing War Of Attrition in Aintree's Grade 1 John Smith's Maghull Chase.
Well Chief remains a red-hot favourite for the Champion Chase in the Betfair market at 2.5, while Ashley Brook is currently fifth best at 17.5 for the showpiece two-mile thriller, which has always been regarded as one of the highlights of the four-day meeting.
