Tony Dobbin may miss the ride on lively outsider Longshanks in Saturday's John Smith's Grand National after taking a heavy fall in Monday's Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse.
Dobbin's mount, Cloudy Lane, was brought down in a melee at the third-last fence, after which initial reports suggested that the jockey had sustained a broken arm.
However, subsequent X-ray examinations have shown no break or fracture, but he has suffered soft tissue damage and extensive bruising.
Richard Hales, Dobbin's agent, said: "They have put a cast on it to keep the swelling down, which he will have on for a couple of days, so really it's impossible to say whether he will be fit for Thursday and the rest of the Aintree meeting."
Longshanks, trained by Kim Bailey, is currently available to back at 28 in Betfair's ante-post market for the world's greatest steeplechase, having been matched at a high of 75.
He has not been seen on a racecourse since making a successful seasonal reappearance at Newbury in November when he trounced Schuh Shine by 11 lengths.
