Trainer Henrietta Knight has decided to aim Racing Demon at the Cheltenham Gold Cup in preference to the Ryanair Chase.
It had been hoped Racing Demon would complete preparations for next month's Festival with a run at Ascot this Saturday, however that plan has been shelved due to the prevailing soft ground.
"The ground is terrible and I would rather wait for Cheltenham, we are going for the Gold Cup," explained Henrietta, who famously sent out Best Mate to record three successive victories in the race during the period 2002-2004.
Racing Demon, the comfortable winner of Huntingdon's Peterborough Chase and third behind Kauto Star in the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day, has been as high as 220 in the Betfair win market, but now stands at 32 for the Gold Cup.
