It's off to Haydock with his notebook for Carl Harris today...

Yesterday was a perfect example of why I bet with Betfair. Seneschal finished fourth in a race where 16 runners became 15 for each way backers but fortunately non-runners do not alter the place terms with Betfair. Coupled with Global's winning run at Goodwood it was a pretty good day.

Lots of sunshine around today and I would usually have no hesitation in going to York but the card at Haydock is too good to ignore. I have two really serious bets there today, so it's down the M62 I go.

We should get off to a flyer in the first race (2.05) which sees the return of Royal Rock who won very easily last time out after a year off the course. He was well backed that day and Chris Wall had him ready and he was able to canter to an easy victory, making highly rated horses look moderate. I put Royal Rock in my notebook that day such was the visual impact of that win. The drop in trip will suit and I would be surprised if there anything to beat him in the field - Royal Rock looks one to follow this season.

Another horse that won in breathtaking style last time out was Main Aim (3.05) who made a mockery of his handicap mark at Newbury, winning as easy as you like. The handicapper has taken the liberty of adding a stone to his mark to which Sir Michael Stoute has responded by running him in group 3 company. I think Main Aim will prove to be better than this grade and can land the John of Gaunt Stakes on the way to bigger prizes later in the season. I rate him as the good thing of the day and will have my largest bet of the season on Main Aim.

Those two are likely to be very well supported and may not be the best value. One that will certainly be a decent each way price is Internationaldebut (3.45) at York who sprang a big surprise over this course and distance last month. He is inconsistent, which some Newcastle fans may correlate with the form of his joint owner, but seems to like York. I think he is worth a small win and place bet at a value price.

It should be a fantastic day in the sunshine, good luck!

Todays Bets:

2.05 Haydock- Royal Rock- win @ [2.94]
3.05 Haydock - Main Aim- win @ [2.34] Win and Place
3.45 York - Internationaldebut - Win and Place @ [10.1]
