Timeform mark the cards of three promising chasers including Osana
Despite lacking strength in depth, this event featured the chasing debut of high-class hurdler Osana, runner-up in the 2008 Champion Hurdle, as well useful Irish hurdlers Roberto Goldback and Kimberlite King.
Osana, having his first start for Edward O'Grady (formerly trained by David Pipe), produced a promising display to land the spoils, jumping soundly and idling late on. The seven-year-old has always looked the type to be very effective over fences and with this experience under his belt, can go on to win further races over the larger obstacles this season. Osana currently trades at [18.0] for the Arkle Chase.
The Jessica Harrington-trained Roberto Goldback finished three quarters of a length behind the winner, showing plenty of promise. Winner of a Grade 2 at Leopardstown over hurdles, the seven-year-old lacked the pace of Osana, yet stayed on well. The son of Bob Back looks sure to stay three miles and is capable of improvement over fences when facing a stiffer test of stamina.
Kimberlite King finished a further seven-and-a-half lengths back in fourth, with the Colm Murphy-trained seven-year-old not jumping as fluently as the principals. Having shown plenty of ability over hurdles, highlighted by a third to Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner Go Native in a Grade 2 at Naas in February, it will be interesting to see whether Kimberlite King can brush up his jumping over fences, and if so, there are certainly races to won with him.
