Side with Side Leg at Wimbledon on Saturday
Wimbledon commentator Darrell Williams with a look ahead at Saturday's racing
Good quality racing gives us the best chance to try and make a regular profit, and with this in mind I'm delighted Wimbledon has an abundance of top grade races this weekend.
Side Leg, surely the best dog running at the track at present, did us a favour last Saturday despite having to work hard from an incomparable position and I'd fancy him to go in again in the A1 on Saturday at 10.0. With the presence of useful Droopys Kiowa on his outside - the bitch is having her fourth run back from season - it will be far from a gimme, especially as his rival was a regular A1 winner before her break, but that should keep the price right for Side Leg.
Jo Shuffle had no answers to Gandisranger in the S1 last weekend, but faces nothing of that calibre in Saturday's six bend feature (10.15) and Phil Rees' charge can use his A1 four bend pace to soon grab control on the rails. Talkspot ran better than his finishing position suggests last time, showing plenty of back straight pace after making a hash of the break, and should return to winning ways in the other A1 at 8.30. I know most racegoers think he has the striped jacket painted on his side such is the frequency in which he draws trap six, but the five box is no problem judged on an all the way win last month.
Talksport, the nationwide commercial radio station, have been great supporters of their dog, and once again sent reporter Ian Abrahams to the track to broadcast his race live last Saturday night, for which I gave the commentary. Unfortunately, it was only for the last half of the race, as the station had inadvertently elected to go for a commercial break just as the dogs were loading and missed the start - oops!
Limited Black, who won well for this column last week, has a good chance of following up in the H1 on Saturday (9.15). I am fearful of Druids Sully in trap one, but just fancy the selection to lead, and if he does, that should be game over. On Friday, I like Beardys Harry in another top grade race at 10.0 to prove his 10/1 A1 win was no fluke. I was really taken by Jason Foster's runner, and his strength can serve him well. Other dogs I'll be looking out for this weekend are Nails Nod (9.15 Friday), who ran an amazing race from trap one last Saturday on a night when the inside boxes were struggling.
Indeed, many of us thought he had got up and compensation surely awaits. I'm also interested in Vinegar Bridge, who showed excellent back straight pace after a slow break on his debut. Paul Donovan's runner hadn't raced since March and is one to keep on the right side of. He runs in A2 company in the 9.0 on Saturday. Further down the ladder, Mistonyan, just back from season, caught the eye in A7 company for Tony Taylor. She found plenty to return with a win and doesn't look badly treated in the 10.30 on Saturday.
