Debbies could be the right Choice
Walthamstow stages Round Two of the Labrokes.com Arc on Saturday with a competitive-looking Heat 1 getting underway at 20.25.
Pork Pie (T1) has been bang in form of late and has clocked up three wins from his last four starts including Tuesday's half-length triumph over Ronnies Earner in the Ladbroke.com First Round at the Stow. He led early on from box four and, despite being bumped, held on to make it through to Round Two with a respectable winning time of 29.24 in heavy going (-30).
The January 2004 whelp returned a tasty 7/1, but sure to be shorter in this contest.
Rough Region (T2) seems to have forgotten how to win with his last victory coming 10 starts ago. He was well beaten by Roswell Starship on Tuesday, but was bumped and could easily improve on that display.
The Maria Dennis-trained September 2004 whelp will start from trap two and if he can follow Pork Pie out of the gates he may run into the next round
Exclusive Lee (T3) is not noted for his starting speed and despite running on to reach the Second Round on Tuesday the August 2004 whelp may leave himself too much to do. The Charles Lister-trained runner was beaten by over three lengths by the impressive Bigbadassassian and may well be one to steer clear of.
Blonde Buster (T4) has done the majority of his winning from boxes one and two, but managed to reach the Second Round after finishing a decent second to Too Risky from box four. Was a huge 25/1 in midweek and could represent good value again if the January 2005 whelp can avoid trouble and she has every chance of getting a flier alongside the slow-starting Newtown Daylami.
Newtown Daylami (T5) has been caught sleeping at the off recently and hard to see the March 2004 whelp reversing Tuesday's form with Pork Pie. From box two he was five lengths back on Tuesday and just headed Aghaburren Wood to finish third.
But it's hard to see him squeezing into the equation here.
Debbies Choice (T6) was quickly away in Round One and despite running wide on bend two the Darren Whitton-trained dog claimed second spot behind the fastest heat winner Lenson Tearaway, who clocked an impressive 29.11sec in awful conditions.
The May 2004 whelp loves box six and Tuesday's beaten 6/4 favourite could well oblige if he is allowed to have things all his own way from the start.
Bigbadassassian looking to blast into next round
Bigbadassassian (T4) looks set to eliminate his rivals at Walthamstow in Round Two (Heat 2) of the Labrokes.com Arc on Saturday (20.53).
Zigzag Dutchy (T1) was slowly away in Round One from box two, but still managed to challenge winner Mystical Haka and was eventually beaten by half a length after a game display. The August 2003 whelp may well be past his peak but the Charles Lister-trained dog should be doing his best work at the judge.
Legal Major (T2) has good early pace and showed that last time out before falling away to finish third almost four lengths behind Risk Related. The Ernest Gaskin-trained December 2003 whelp was one and a half lengths behind Back By Daylight (T6) last time out and he will struggle to reverse that form.
Blonde Zak (T3) was slowly away over the 475 metre track in midweek but battled on gamely to finish just half a length behind Armies Plan, who clocked a moderate 29.39sec winning time. The September 2004 whelp finds it hard to win, with his only victory to date coming eight starts ago and he looks like one to lay.
Bigbadassassian (T4) was very quickly away from box 6 in victory last time out at the Stow and led from start to finish as he clocked a respectable 21.98 sec. The July 2004 whelp has clocked up five wins from his last eight starts and would be going for a hat-trick had he not been badly bumped on bend four and narrowly beaten by Powerfast Rapid on February 1. He looks sure to run a big race.
Vipar Totti (T5) was caught sleeping in box 6 last time out and was beaten almost five lengths by Mystical Haka. This February 2005 whelp was also baulked on bend one in the Round One contest on Tuesday and the Alison Ingram-trained dog ran on to finish third, but on recent evidence he will find it difficult to overhaul Zigzag Dutchy, who got the better of him by over four lengths to finish second in the previous round.
Back By Daylight (T6) finished second to Risk Related by over two lengths, but defeated Legal Major (T2) by one and a half lengths despite a pedestrian start last time out. The James Reynolds-trained dog is usually one of the first to break and if he gets away he's sure to be a live contender. He looks like being a match for his February 8 conqueror Zigzag Dutchy (T1) who defeated him by half a length in a T2 contest.
Berty to go one better
The consistent Optimistic Berty (T4) will be hoping to end his role of runner-up when he tackles his A1 challengers in the penultimate race on the card - the 22.17 over 475 metres.
Special Trip (T1) is usually a fast starter and showed strong early pace in defeat last time out to Perceptive Percy. The John Coleman-trained dog was unfancied at 8/1 in last weekend's A1 contest, but the 475 metre specialist will have more support this time around and he could run a big race.
Annes Honcho (T2) needs no introduction to the Stow and has clocked up a series of successes over the last few years including the recent (Feb 8) three-quarter length triumph over Farloe Focus in a time of 28.97sec - in less than ideal conditions.
The August 2002 dog was switched back to 475 metres last time out and he ran on gamely to take the honours at 5/2 and it would be a brave punter to write him off tonight.
Addington Ruby (T3) has been stepped up to A1 grade in his last two outings and has yet to find his feet trailing home last in both races. The October 2004 whelp was beaten by seven lengths by Perceptive Pacey last weekend after being baulked on bend three. But he was disappointing and the Seamus Cahill-trained dog will have it all to do to reverse the form with Special Trip (T1) who ran on late to claim second in that race. One to lay.
Optimistic Berty (T4) has proved his consistency in recent weeks by claiming second place in his last four starts. He was nailed by half a length last time out at the Stow as Armies Plan took the plaudits in a time of 28.99sec. The Micky Puzey-trained dog also found his rival too good for him last month as well when he was beaten again - this time by almost three lengths. But the opposition will not be as tough tonight and the April 2003 whelp looks poised to get back to winning ways if he can avoid trouble.
Noirs Heart (T5) was the beaten 5/2 co favourite of three last time out at Wimbledon (460m), but he was crowded out on bends one and two and that put paid to his chances.
Seamus Cahill's May 2004 whelp looks to have decent claims and if he can get away quickly he will sure to be rivalling trap four for the honours. But with only one win from his last 20 starts, he may have to settle for a supporting role once more.
Blue Rizzler (T6) was quickly away and waltzed in last time out over 475 metres on February 6 defeating Get On Blackie by nearly three lengths (28.97sec). The January 2005 whelp led from start to finish in the A2 event and the Mark Wallis-trained dog looks to be on the upgrade. He was running in A3 company last month as he recorded another victory from his favoured box six. He does though have a tendency to trap slowly and he maybe best watched in his first A1 contest.
