Dan on Target at Stow

Target Dan is arguably one of the most improved greyhounds to be racing in the lower grades at Walthamstow at present, and the exciting youngster will be bidding for a hat-trick in the A5 contest on Thursday night's card.

Seamus Cahill's promising son of Fire Height Dan has displayed awesome pace from the machine in winning four of his 12 races to date - all from the outside lane, and is once again ideally housed in trap six for his next assignment (20:36).

The hugely progressive pup has stormed though the grades since getting off the mark in a modest A9 event in April, and his 'away and gone' style of running looks set to excite the crowds at the Chingford Road circuit for many months to come.

Although Target Dan recorded a personal best 29.54 when bolting up by four lengths ten days ago, the September 2005 whelp may well be given plenty to think about on Thursday by the likes of the improving pair Peter Rich's Tiger Scot (T2) and Paul Garland's Rough Venus (T3), who are both likely to be staying on stoutly in the latter stages.

Revolver set to gun down opposition

Danfoss Revolver should blast the layers in the final event on Romford's BAGS card at 21:14.

Envious Tale (T1) will prove a worthy challenger for market leadership as Dave Mullins' dog has returned to the track in good form. An A1 performer in his pomp, he is housed in his favoured red jacket and hasn't been too far away on two recent visits to this grade.

Millwards Lad (T2) has been happily opposed by layers in recent outings and it could be the case of "same again" on Monday. Paul Young's performer looks out of sorts at present and makes little appeal as a punting medium.

Love Flora (T3) rates as very much the surprise package of the race, so any evidence of support during the early trading should be noted. Maxine Locke's bitch attracted plenty of cash ahead of her British introduction and those shrewd punters always looked like collecting once she asserted herself down the back stretch.

Compliance Lad (T4) is on a first run for Alison Ingram having left the kennels of Mark Wallis at Walthamstow. The son of Small Fortune lost his way badly at Chingford Road and supporters will be hoping that a change of scenery can work the oracle for his confidence. Formerly trained at London Road by Paul Young, he had made A1 grade before departing for pastures new, and he can be opposed here on account of some moderate trial figures.

Danfoss Revolver (T5) has experience in the top echelon and a run of 24.68 last Thursday represented a significant improvement in terms of his recent performances. Nevertheless, he has proved difficult to catch right in the past so the layers may be tempted to offer slightly bigger odds than might have ordinarily been the case.

In The Clouds (T6) is the only wide seed in the race and she should have the luxury of the outside to herself. The grader took no chances by allocating her into an A1 slot on arrival at Romford, and while Maxine Locke's bitch is still a maiden, a translation of her trials form would make her a big player under tonight's conditions.

Blue is the colour

Blue Tigress appears to have all in her favour in an intriguing A6 (19:11) on Romford's card.

Charles Deal (T1) has proved a bad investment for his beleaguered backers with 11 visits to the well without success. There is a cogent argument to suggest that he could have a chance from tonight's draw, although the presence of a speedier trapper alongside should ensure that the layers will be happy to accommodate.

Mystic Blue (T2) has lost the red jacket this evening, although that should not faze this consistent enough bitch. The daughter of Roanokee barely stays 400 metres and needs to bag the inside rail in order to have any chance of landing the spoils.

Blue Tigress (T3) is another for whom early pace is assured and Martyn Wiley's bitch has an obvious chance of grabbing the centre ground on her rivals. While most of her winning has been done in weaker company, she has obliged twice for the backers in recent weeks and her clocks have oozed consistency.

Cash Empire (T4) has proved a friend to the layers on Betfair, and with more wooden spoons than an MFI kitchen; Alison Ingram's bitch is unlikely to stir too much in the way of positive interest in the market.

New York Maeve (T5) has had many training troubles but seems entirely capable of holding her form between long absences. This will be her first competitive outing since April, so a perusal of the early trading on Betfair could prove informative as to her chances of staging another winning reappearance.

Emmies Boy (T6) holds few surprises as he is the eldest in the field by some way. Maggie Lucas' veteran has been opposed on each of his last five starts in this grade, and it is likely that the layers will have few qualms about taking him on again.

Locke charge holds key to A3 contest

Maxine Locke's Joes Honcho can end a losing run in a competitive looking A3 at 20:43.

Joes Honcho (T1) has struggled to get her head in front in recent weeks but with a plum draw on the rail, the ex-A2 bitch will have few easier opportunities than this to get back into the winning habit. Successful in back-to-back races in May, a repeat of a recent 24.83 should be enough to land the spoils.

Questhouse Diva (T2) is an acknowledged early bird and her chances rely on turning handy at the first bend. The daughter of Knockeevan Major landed a hefty punt in A3 last month, although the layers enjoyed the better of the skirmishes when she was upgraded into A2.

Oh Geno (T3) was A1 class before a long-term injury saw him off the card between December 2006 and March 2007. The son of Petes Boss ran his best race for some time last week, although a record of nine successive losses could prove off-putting to most players in tonight's market.

Bonville Jack (T4) has not shown much in the way of form in recent weeks and appears to be the second string of the Maxine Locke entry. A confirmed middle seed; there is no room for error from tonight's draw.

Greenrose Spike (T5) is another to return to the fold following injury. The son of Borna Pilot landed three races on the bounce prior to his enforced absence but has struggled to deliver the goods in two sighters since returning to the track.

Ballymac Thunder (T6) was heavily backed ahead of a similar affair nine days ago. Likely to be unaffected by any other runner if steering her wide course, a tendency to trap out slowly is not a particularly desirable one at this tight circuit.

Jim could fix it for hurdling fans

Questhouse Jimmy (T4; 19:43) appears to hold solid claims in the first of two hurdling inter-tracks on Saturday.

Gary Baggs' inmate landed a huge gamble in H2 last month and as his connections have been prepared to go in heavily about their charge when fancied, the early trading on Betfair should be monitored closely. Not disgraced behind Four Minutes on his most recent start, he has to be a major player if exploding out of the boxes.

Ginger Ninja (T1) finished ahead of Remember Billy when the pair met at Chingford Road last March. A subsequent winner at Reading over 460 metres, the fawn proved easy to back ahead of his most recent race at Wimbledon and is likely to be opposed again by the layers on Saturday.

Gantara (T2) is a relative newcomer to hurdling and had graded at A4 on the level. Although chasing home the useful Ronnies Callum in H1 last time out, John Coleman's dog is hard to catch right and has not won a competitive race since February.

Marley Flyer (T3) would have preferred the rails and connections are forced to make do with the white jacket on Saturday. The son of Toll Security could be given a chance on the basis of a second to Skippers Crew at Wimbledon in March, although the layers have enjoyed the better of the skirmishes over the last few months.

Boherash Dingle (T5) had a successful May with victories obtaining at Wimbledon and Reading. The son of Droopys Scholes ran a solid second in a Wimbledon H1 on Tuesday, and as that run had followed a brief absence, there could be more to come this evening.

Remember Billy (T6) is invariably capable of prospering in the event of early bother. A six-bend stayer on the flat, he pounced fast and late to deprive Ballymacs Back in H2 at the beginning of the month. Found out when upped into the top echelon, the layers may be keen to oppose on this occasion.

Four looks to have fantastic chance

Four Minutes (T1; 19:57) is likely to be a warm order in the second of tonight's inter-track races at Walthamstow.

Gary Baggs' veteran has never had the plaudits he deserved as he has been forced to take on all of the best hurdlers that have passed through Chingford Road during the last few years. Despite nearing his fifth birthday, he showed that he lost none of his sparkle when accounting for Questhouse Jimmy in a H1 at the Stow last week. Ideally drawn again, it would be no surprise to see the layers being happy to dodge him this evening.

Broadacres Dan (T2) surprised many by lowering the colours of a number of illustrious names in the Lynx Cup at Reading. However, Bernie Doyle's dog was beaten at short odds on Tuesday at Wimbledon and having showed little sparkle on previous visits to Chingford Road; the layers could be keen to take him on.

Dan Of War (T3) was heavily punted ahead of his hurdling debut but having made a spectacular start, the layers were the ones to be smiling after the battle. The son of Spiral Nikita is very much pitched in at the deep end, although as a useful A3 performer on the level, his progress in the Betfair market should be followed closely.

The impeccably bred Limited Black (T4) makes his first foray away from Plough Lane tonight. The son of Droopys Kewell has struggled to make his mark at Open race level but has proved something of a standing dish when taking on graded fare. The middle seed comprehensively out-pointed Broadacres Dan in a H1 at the beginning of the month and backers should expect to see him coming into focus as they approach the third bend.

Starfire Flyer (T5) appears to have improved somewhat since leaving the vagaries of H3 at Crayford. The layers have been more than happy to accommodate backers at any cost on his last three starts, and the percentage call is overwhelmingly that of further opposition.

Shelbourne Magic (T6) produced a big price upset when successful in an Open over course-and-distance last month. That victory may have been somewhat fortuitous as there was a fair degree of scrimmaging taking place and Jason Foster's dog was able to avoid all distractions around him.

Centaur set to star in Marathon

Centaur Iris (T3; 22:03) looks the dog to beat in the inter-track marathon over 835 metres.

Mark Wallis' record with staying bitches has proven second-to-none around Walthamstow in recent years and he looks to have unearthed another potentially useful sort in Centaur Iris. The daughter of Centaur Corker has struggled to get her head in front over this trip but this appears to be a massive drop in class and there could be plenty more to come.

Supporters of True Frankie (T1) could soon know their fate as he needs to lead from the lids in order to produce his better performances. His Open win was against fairly humdrum opposition and he would need to reverse recent form with Centaur Iris in order to lift tonight's win purse.

Wedmore Joe (T2) has won over 872 metres at Wimbledon so there are no questions in relation to stamina. His record around Plough Lane suggests that early pace is not his forte so he could be forced to "sit and suffer" behind the leaders in the hope of securing a run.

Droopys Madonna (T4) was well beaten on a previous attempt over course-and-distance and with a losing run that stretches back to December 2006; there has been little for punters to get excited about in recent sorties.

Shelbourne Thesa (T5) had been fancied to go well at last week's Open meeting and Mark Wallis' bitch did not disappoint her many backers on Betfair. Having previously lowered the colours of Head Iton Tonge in a Novice marathon in May, she did disappoint on a follow-up over course-and-distance. Any market confidence would be highly significant under the circumstances.

Hondo Reunion (T6) won an Open at the track in September 2006 and though winning has become an infrequent habit, Jason Foster's bitch still maintains a modicum of ability. As a daughter of Hondo Black, staying is her forte and as is typical for many of the sire's progeny, a slow break is often followed by significant progression through the middle stages of the race.

Side with Vieri

Vieri Glenside (T1) should get his supporters away on favourable terms in the
Romford Stadium Sprint on Friday night (19:30).

Course-and-distance form counts for plenty over the sprint trips and Steve Willey's charge knows where the finish line is. Obliging for favourite backers on each of his last two visits, the son of Droopys Vieri has previously accounted for a number of tonight's rivals. Given an ideal draw, there are likely to be plenty of backers waiting to be matched about the possibility of an on-the-bounce treble.

Unique Rebel (T2) is certainly no pushover and while Peter Payne's charge does not lack for class, he is an infrequent visitor to the two bend discipline. The loss of the red jacket appears a big negative and the layers will be happy to accommodate.

Clonkelly Jimbo (T3) is recently graded in at A2 and could have a plausible chance if transferring trials form under race conditions. With two proven sprinters in the other middle seedings, there is absolutely no margin for error.

High St Ego (T4) had been a friend to the layers over four bends but he confirmed the impression that he might act over this trip when second to Vieri Glenside last week. Despite a lack of experience, this was a highly encouraging run that would put him in with solid claims if others err at the lids.

Ronnies Hare (T5) could pay for trainer Mark Wallis' diesel money for Saturday's third round of the Greyhound Derby. Difficult to win with in the past, his consistency on the clock is very much a redeeming feature.

Elles Hawk (T6) is a genuine wide seed in all senses of the description and rates as a big danger to all. Better known as a regular around Harlow, he did win well on a previous sortie around London Road, so any confidence behind Alan Stevens' runner in the Betfair market should not be ignored.

National winner back on view

Betfair Grand National winner, Jos Cigar (T4) bids to overcome a poor draw in the Romford Stadium Hurdles (20:15).

Alrita Prince (T1) is a good flat performer in his own right and showed enough to win an A1 in April. Although somewhat novicey at his hurdles, Martyn Wiley's charge left behind a poor run in H3 to see off Stradeen Ouzo by a head, in a time of 24:77.

Feach Anseo (T2) was behind on that occasion and there does not appear to be any reason to suggest that the form can be turned around tonight. Steve Gammon's dog has turned losing into an unfortunate habit and was unable to take advantage of an easier opportunity at Crayford on Monday.

Rio Guiseppe (T3) did not impress with his jumping in two solo trials around London Road and was successfully opposed in the Betfair market last week. He does have a future at the game, although backers saw their goose cooked by a very modest break. Nevertheless, the clock is coming down in the right direction and Danny Riordan is a trainer who knows the time of day.

Jos Cigar (T4) Steve Willey's training career was really put on the map by the Ricky Holloway owned dog, but the National winner could be vulnerable punting proposition on Friday due to the heady combination of a modest draw and a substantial drop in trip.

Alis Hope (T5) is incapable of running a bad race and continues to try hard in spite of a lack of natural ability. Dave Mullins' dog is here after running what was probably one of his best ever races at Crayford last Monday. A winner in H3 just nine days earlier, all hope relies on clearing the striped jacket at the first bend.

Newlawn Berts (T6) finished adrift of Alis Hope in that Crayford race, although he met significant bother throughout the contest. While excuses may be wearing thin for those who have lumped on at short odds in recent weeks, his short-head nailing of Rockmount Fitzy in 24:60 last month was visually impressive. There can be few complaints about the draw tonight.

It's that Man Again

Good Man John (T1) is likely to be sent off as a warm order for the Romford Stadium Puppies race (20:45).

The son of Top Honcho did not attract too much in the way of support on Betfair last Friday, but Paul Young's charge wasn't aware of that minor detail and blasted his way to victory in 24:39. That effort represented a significant step up upon his trials and it is unlikely that the layers will be in such a frivolous mood on this occasion.

Lockwood Littljo (T2) does not lack for experience but does suffer for early toe. Ill at ease from a poor draw over the mid-distance of 430 metres at Walthamstow and having lost her way over further, there appear to be few secrets left in the locker.

Flying Time (T3) John Mullins has never been afraid to travel for a winner and continues his "tour" around the British circuit. Sent off as favourite at Sunderland for a heat of the Ritchie Puppy Cup, 'Flying' lost all chance with a stumble at the start. White jacket runners have fared well at Romford over the last few months and it would be folly to discount him in the event of any positive activity in the Betfair market.

Barnfield Chubby (T4) looks an interesting recruit from the Sam Poots kennel. The son of Larkhill Jo has something to prove on his recent trial times, but his connections are unafraid of punting their opinion and the early trading is closely watched.

Sleep Tight (T5) is the only bitch in the field and is likely to give her supporters a good run for their money at big odds. Maxine Locke's A1 performer did not act around Walthamstow but has the sectionals to be handy at the first turn. She would however, need to reverse form with the red jacket in order to win.

Hudson (T6) is the only wide seed in the pack and in puppy races; it is not uncommon to see the punters smashing into the striped jacket. While his record at Romford reads four runs and four losses, Tony Collett is a very shrewd placer of his dogs and he may represent some value against the short-priced favourite.

GREYHOUNDS: PREVIEWS

Kid hopes to conquer from boxes

Galaxy Kid (T6) bids to complete his run through the grades in the RGOA Members Trophy Race (21:57) at Romford.

The son of Droopys Scholes arrived on the card in A8 last September and Paul Young's wide tracker has bravely fought his way to the top echelon from thereon in. In the first of two A1 contests, he appears to have every chance of staking a major claim as they head for the vital first bend.

Scary Chaz (T1) trialled at the track in 24.78 last Wednesday and seems to have shown no ill effects from a stumble on June 2. This was an encouraging enough appearance but the formbook suggests that it has been prudent to oppose him when previously campaigned at this level.

Hortons Diamond (T2) obliged in an A1 at the beginning of the month and has campaigned in sprint opens since. The son of Blue Gooner has looked most progressive in recent months and as an inmate of the Paul Young kennel, there is every chance that there could be further improvement.

Ronin (T3) made full use of a downgrade into A2 company and was soon able to regain the winning thread. The son of Tucks Mein finished ahead of Hortons Diamond when the pair met in an open last May, so the early trading is watched to see whether a first victory in A1 is likely.

Blacknotblue (T4) is an impressively bred individual as he is out of the well-known broodbitch, Macy Gray. Connections have wasted no time in taking on open race assignments after the dog scooted home in A3 last month. This does represent a two-grade hike on graded form, but given recent efforts in the Graphite Puppy Derby at Walthamstow, there can be plenty of optimism that the dog will acquit himself on Wednesday.

Jomax Plumber (T5) has paid his way at this level since the assessor decided to plunge him in with the big boys in February. Early pace is very much the forte of Maxine Locke's inmate although three recent wooden spoons may see him being taken on by the layers.

Tessa aims to Beat Them again

Beat Them Tessa (T1) will bid to win her third race on the bounce in the penultimate race (22:13) on Romford's card.

Alison Ingram's bitch was easy to back before a recent maiden open around London Road, but soon wrestled the rails off Genesis Star and put her rivals to the sword. Back in the red on this occasion, the daughter of Droopys Woods simply could not be in better form.

Swift Mentor (T2) lost no caste in defeat to Roswell Spaceman last weekend and cannot be written off readily. The loss of the rails is an obvious negative for the son of Daves Mentor, but he has adapted quickly to the track since arriving Walthamstow and had won three opens on the spin prior to his recent reverse.

The punters at Romford had underestimated Glory George (T3) last Wednesday and it is unlikely that the layers' generosity will extend to a second offering. An open race sprinter in his younger days, he is always vulnerable in the closing stages of the race. That said, he does have a fair strike rate when tried in A1 grade.

Clap The Throw (T4) has only one way of running and that is to attack the bunny as the lids rise. It is a credit to Peter Payne's training abilities that this Aug 02 whelp can still cut the mustard at A1 level although it would be no surprise to see the layers taking a view on Wednesday as there are genuine open class dogs in opposition.

Mineola Lem Lem (T5) is a relative newcomer to Romford having raced previously under the care of Karen Prince at Monmore. The daughter of Roanokee landed a weak bitches open at the track at the beginning of the month and a clock of 24.76 was a fair one for a first competitive look around the track. The layers have opposed on two subsequent starts and have had few worries in collecting their cash.

Orange Snow (T6) has posted some uninspiring form figures of late but it would be no surprise to see the sole wide seed bounce back to some semblance of form. The daughter of Droopys Vieri landed a monster punt in May when successful in a time of 24.44. It will be interesting to see if there is any market confidence behind Maxine Locke's bitch as she could benefit from an inability to be involved in any first bend trouble.

Duchess could lord it over rivals

Hi Duchess (T3) may make use of the grader's leniency in order to land the closing stayers' event (22:30) on Romford's card.

Dave Mullins' bitch was not disgraced on a recent foray into S1 and while there is the suspicion that 575 metres is on the sharp side for her these days, her backers will be happy to take her on trust in S2 as she obliged in both of her last two appearances at this grade. It would also be completely apt for the daughter of Spiral Nikita to win a race named in her honour.

Viparsheda (T1) will not be seen until the race begins to build to its crescendo. The term "out and out stayer" is often overused in greyhound racing but Alison Ingram's representative ticks all the right boxes on that score. A well beaten second in an open over 1025 metres at Coventry last Sunday, the Betfair market is watched for clues.

Paulees Princess (T2) should have few problems in securing an early lead on the rails and this factor will play heavily in her likely odds. A winner of a weak S1 last month, there is the suspicion that the daughter of Hotshow Ben does not quite stay six bends and she could be picked off by the proven stayers off the home turn.

Commons Bale (T4) is an honest individual who does not know how to run a bad race. Despite a fair record in S2 company, the layers have invariably opposed on recent appearances at London Road. A winning time of 36.39 does read well in the context of this race and backers can have the luxury of knowing that he will turn handy.

Chakalak Harmony (T5) was a high-class juvenile over four bends but the jury is very much out in relation to his abilities over six. On a losing run over this trip since January, the percentage call is that of opposing him again.

Airtech Choice (T6) has been an infrequent winner of late but it would be folly to discount him as a consequence. Paul Young's dog does need to get away on terms in order to show his best form and while this is no certainty, he did post three successes at this level during the early spring.

Calzaghe Joe lands knockout blow

Calzaghe Joe was on winning form on Saturday night as Ted Soppitt's second string took the £10,000 first prize - winning the Graphite Puppy Derby at Walthamstow.

The 7/1 shot was left in the clear from arc two after a pile up at the first bend left kennelmate and favourite Droopys Obafemi on the floor.

Opening Artist (T5), Droopys Robster (T2) and July Captain (T1) were all involved in traffic problems early on in the 475m contest, allowing Calzaghe Joe to cruise home in a new best time of 28:90secs.

The July 2005 pup defeated Opening Artist by two-and-a-half lengths with semi-final surprise package Headford County (T6) a head back in third after a lightning start.

'Joe' has not been out of the top three in his last five races and punters will be wise to keep track of this consistent dog's upcoming competitive outings.

County produces shock at Stow

Headford County was virtually ignored in Betfair's pre-race market prior to powering his way to a surprise success in the first semi-final heat of the Graphite (UK) Puppy Derby at Walthamstow on Tuesday night.

Smartly into his stride from trap six, Philip Simmonds' likeable individual proceeded to cut a dash throughout the 475m journey, coming home with two-and-a-half lengths to spare over Ted Soppitt's well-fancied Droopys Obafemi (T3) in a personal best 28.81sec.

Ante-post favourite Roxholme King was a major disappointment for the big-hitting backers, as he suffered his first defeat in four career starts.

Harry Keightley's youngster twice ran into bumping and could only manage fifth, nearly 11 lengths behind the impressive winner.

Seamus Cahill's outsider, July Captain, was the other qualifier for Saturday's final.

Bernie Doyle's Opening Artist was significantly slower to leave the machine than Headford County before securing the other eliminator from trap five in 28.88sec.

The progressive October 2005 whelp stormed home two-and-a-quarter lengths clear of Dean Childs' unlucky-in-running Droopys Robster, after taking overall control at the second turn.

Calzaghe Joe ensured that Ted Soppitt has two representatives in the final after scraping the third qualifying slot by a head from John Mullins' Blonde Rock.

Roxholme to roar on at Stow

The big-hitting backers will be holding their breath as the lids crash open at Walthamstow on Tuesday night as the brilliant Roxholme King bids to power his way to victory in the opening semi-final heat of the Graphite (UK) Puppy Derby (21:03).

Harry Keightley's exciting prospect cemented his position at the head of Betfair's ante-post market for outright glory when making it three wins from three starts in last Thursday's second round.

The 'King' recorded a fastest-of-the-night 28.84sec.on that occasion, and the hugely-progressive son of Give And Go looks set to start a warm order from trap two in Tuesday's eliminator.

However, with July Captain drawn next door in the red jacket, the July 2005 whelp will need to be on his toes at trap rise to avoid any bumping with Seamus Cahill's representative.

A bigger danger to Roxholme King's prospects of progressing to the final looks to be Ted Soppitt's Droopys Obafemi (T3), who managed to qualify from his second stage heat despite running twice into bumping.

The second semi-final appears to be the weaker of the two heats, with the likes of Cahill's Milldean Buster (T1) and Soppitt's other contender Calzaghe Jo (T6) looking set to command plenty of market attention.
