The Sky cameras will be at Wimbledon on Tuesday night for the Oaks final. Darrell Williams marks your card...
Dangerous Lady can claim a clean sweep through the bitches Classic by landing the Oaks final in front of Sky Sports cameras at Wimbledon on Tuesday evening.
A semi-finalist last year, the David Mullins' trained runner has hit form at just the right time out of her seasonal rest. But the deciding factor in my eyes in a competitive final is her draw as the sole wide seed, with Ravello Drive, bidding to provide a first local success for six years, noticeably edging inwards as the traps opened when winning her own semi-final last week.
Nevertheless, she still rates a big danger, confirming that her beating of Droopys Quinta in the quarter-final was no fluke, when easily accounting for strong running Steady Scholes in that semi-final.
This column's ante-post hopes rest on Droopys Quinta, but her chance took a knock when she was drawn trap one inside equally quick breaking Meenala Amy. However, if she were to get a flyer as she did in the first round, Seamus Cahill's bitch, who remains extremely fast on the bunny, is certainly good enough. The selection however, holds every chance of trapping first herself and looks booked for a solo on the outside. With stamina not an issue she appears the most likely recipient of the most important race in the female calendar.
As ever Wimbledon have put on an excellent supporting card with Deanridge Ammo expected to start the night with success in the puppy race at 7.40. With Northern Puppy Derby winner Droopys Kez not in the same form as when winning that Category One final at Sunderland, Paul Young's Puppy Cup runner-up can use his early pace to good effect and confirm the promise of a brace of recent trials over the 460m trip.
Romeo Maldini could hardly have taken the step up to six bends in better style with two sharp wins at Hall Green and Dave Firmager's runner can account for a classy looking field in the 8.35. Runner-up in the Eclipse and Harry Holmes Trophy, the selection also posted a very fast 2866 over 480m trip at the track in April, and with Carbarns Tom, awkwardly drawn in trap four, he can continue his unbeaten run over the longer trip.
After clocking the joint fastest time in the first round of the Oaks, it was disappointing to see Droopys Lotto's exit when denied a run early on in the quarter-finals, but back in the six box she can claim a consolation prize in the Ladies race at 8.50. Still improving after a three month layoff, Seamus Cahill's runner will nevertheless need to be on her toes to avoid Fabulous Quest and Blonde Fern at traps rise.
Millwards Comet has posted a pair of decent looking trials at the track and might just be good enough to account for a decent looking field, which includes triple big race finalist but Wimbledon newcomer Movealong Blue, on his British debut in the 8.00.
Analyse, who looked sharp in a trial last week, can account for kennelmate and Champion Hurdle winner Morell Warrior, who is unraced since the summer, in the hurdles race at 8.15.
