The Lord's got a couple of lays at Sheffield

Droopys Eugene
There is likely to be a run on this local staying champion. But he is ready for the taking. A dog well known for his slow starts and strong finishes, the 720m does play to his strengths. But something may well get away from him, and with a field of pretty good dogs on the bunny, none of whom will struggle to see out the trip, he could be left high and dry. Indeed, there is not one suspect stayer in the line-up, so how can Droopys Eugene win in anything like a clean race?

On form, he looks a dog very much in form. But closer inspection shows a fallibility. His time in the semis was slower than in the heats and there is an argument that he has peaked. Also, he showed a marked preference for the middle to wide ground out of trap two in last week's heats, so expect the same again. And anything less than a lightning break will see him come together with Was Not Me on his outer. A favourite to take on.
