Greyhound Betting: Keep watching Droopys Carvalho and consider Comans Joe

Commander in Chief has what it takes to become a six bend star, says Jonathan Hobbs.

Droopys Carvalho came of age during the Sussex Cup at Hove, his heat, semi-final and final-winning performances all out of the top drawer, and he was full value for the £10,000 prize.

John Mullins clearly has another star performer and he should continue to be watched. Blessed with real speed, he had sufficient reserves of stamina to keep them at bay over 515m.
But both Commander in Chief and Ballymac Under lost nothing in defeat.

The former really is back to the form which saw him reach the Derby semi-finals and another testing four-bend target like the Select Stakes or the Eclipse would be interesting, while a switch to six bends could see him become a star.

Ballymac Under now heads for Ireland and could well be suited by Shelbourne Park.
Flying Winner was absolutely awesome in winning the 695m event, coming from way off the pace to reel in the game Comeback, who has built on the form which saw him reach the Cock O'The North final at Belle Vue

Boherna Best, a brother of Barnfield On Air through a repeat mating, was a terrific winner of the puppy final and his all-round speed will continue to serve him well.
And while Brimardon Star kept up the gallop and will surely develop into a talented stayer, the dog that caught my eye was Mountjoy Star who showed excellent pace for a long way before tiring.

Mention of Barnfield on Air takes me to the great dog, who did us proud in what was effectively a Sussex Cup consolation final. He really produced the goods at the scene of arguably his greatest triumph, having won the Sussex Cup in track-record time at Hove last year, and was good value for his victory. Rough Mourinho again ran well in defeat and will soon get a chance to dominate and absolutely hose up.

Droopys Mate won the bitches' stake in good style, but the way in which A Million Maid won her heat suggests that she should always be respected. Things did not go right for Laurence Tuffin's bitch in the final, but a return to the winner's enclosure should just be around the corner.

Ballymac Ruso proved costly for backers when just picked up by Acceleration in the four-bend race, and there is no question that the in-form winner took his chance well. But the second will improve massively, has great gears and goes to Ireland for their Derby in good heart.

As for the hurdles event won in a canter by Analyse, Comans Joe and Stevensonrocket should be considered for backing next time, and both line up at Wimbledon on Tuesday. Both showed pace to the turn and, in the case of the recently back-from-injury Comans Joe, he should derive benefit from it.
