Ed Nicholson takes a peek at today's Newcastle BAGS card and picks out a couple of greyhounds to follow this afternoon....

"Last time out the December 2006 whelp finished 5th in a handicap race having started at the back of the field. But before that he was a winner in A2 in a rapid 29.40. That run did come in trap six, but he should be able to operate out of his trap and given that the race is jammed pack full of early pace on the outside, he must beat the traps four and six to the early jump."

There are two A1's at Newcastle this afternoon in name, but the A2 at 3.18pm is all but an A1 - with five of the six runners having run at top grade at the track last time out.

But the one I like is the only greyhound who didn't contest an A1 last time, trap five, Whillens Image. Last time out the December 2006 whelp finished 5th in a handicap race having started at the back of the field. But before that he was a winner in an A2 in a rapid 29.40. That run did come in trap six, but he should be able to operate out of his trap and given that the race is jammed pack full of early pace on the outside, he must beat the traps four and six to the early jump.

If he was to do that, he would have won half the battle, and then he just has to hold on to the fast finishing dogs from the inside. He is well worth betting at anything over [3.5].

The final race on the card is the 6.18pm, and Rosamar in trap two has been given a real chance by the grader this evening.

Having recently run out of traps three and five, the February 2007 whelp finds himself in the blue jacket and that along with a drop in grade means he must have a tremendous chance today. Back Rosamar at anything over [3.8] today.
