"Winning Bond is a dog that needs time to wind up and although he wont be doing anything quickly the 3 meteres he gets from the trap six runner and 2 metres from the trap five dog may mean he can get round the first two bends in at least fourth place. If that is achieved I would make him a shortish price to cut into the leaders lead in the back straight, and provided he can get into the home straight without any crowding he should power home."
Ed Nicholson has ploughed through today's BAGS cards to find a couple of dogs worth following at the right odds. His attention was caught by two greyhounds at Newcastle this afternoon....
The best race on Newcastle's BAGS card this afternoon is the 3.18pm. Crash Domino in the red jacket has recorded very quick back to back efforts in this A1 grade posting 29.33 and 29.35, and provided he can wrest the rails from the trap two runner early on, I can see him having too much pace for this rivals today.
The April 2006 whelp has a speedy 29.03 to his name and anything near that would wipe these away. Although I doubt we'll see that sort of time from him today, his tardemark early speed will make him mighty difficult to beat. The great thing about backing Crash Domino is that although he does possess relatively blistering early speed - he has also come from behind dogs to win at A1 grade in the recent past as well. He should not be missed today and backing him at anything over [3.0] could be a successful strategy.
The very next race at 3.37pm sees a six bend handicap and although I would usually never seek to fathom these sort of contests out, I do think that one of my favourite greyhounds on the Newcastle kennel strength at present, Winning Bond, has a great chance off his +3m mark in trap three today.
Winning Bond is a dog that needs time to wind up and although he wont be doing anything quickly the 3 meteres he gets from the trap six runner and 2 metres from the trap five dog may mean he can get round the first two bends in at least fourth place. If that is achieved I would make him a shortish price to cut into the leaders lead in the back straight, and provided he can get into the home straight without any crowding he should power home. The dogs in front will be stopping and the only danger may be those behind. But Winning Bond stays well and he is taken to land his second handicap race inside a month. Take anything over [3.5]
