Local trainers will be hoping to see off a strong challenge when heats start for Belle Vue's £3000 Gorton Cup on Friday.
The six heats take centre stage on the card at the Manchester track and the prize has attracted some high class entries.
Top trainer Charlie Lister looks to hold a strong hand with six-time Open winner Shoe Shine and Ballymac Wind, who has twice plundered open race prizes at Belle Vue.
In a wide-open looking contest, John Mullins and Graham Hutt are both four-handed, with the latter represented by Unruly, a veteran of 47 races.
However, runners from local kennels are bound to attract plenty of support and
Otto Keures will be hoping his well travelled Delwood Burrow and the six-time track winner Noirs Duke can repel the visitors while June McCombe will have high hopes for Giddy Kipper whose most recent Open success came here on 28 January.
