Brayview Jo was the subject of a monumental gamble at Crayford last Monday in a normal looking A7 contest. The Droopys Scolari October 2006 whelp went off at [3.0] having been double those odds when betting opened up at the Kent track.
And those who punted the dog down to favourite certainly knew that Brayview Jo is running in the wrong grade and although he finished second he was very unlucky not to win the race.
Having missed the break he made ground to the first bend before running off and not getting the clearest of runs. But once back on an even keel he showed a tremendous turn of pace down the back straight, but again was crowded. He ran on to snatch second but with an even start would have won easily. He is a dog capable of winning in higher grade and he simply must be backed in A7 next time. That was the dog's first race at Crayford and he will certainly have learnt from his escapades.
Brayview Jo, Crayford A7
Katie Scarlett has raced no less than 86 times at Nottingham and having recently been downgraded from A3 company I am happy to add her to the virtual kennel in the belief she can take an A4 event soon.
Last Monday the Pacific Mile 2004 bitch was baulked at the initial bend but ran on to finish fourth and although beaten over five lengths she looks the type likely to do better with a clear run.
The last time Katie Scarlett won was in December in A4 grade when she won by 7.75 lengths at 1.8, from trap six. Conditions that day were deplorable (going allowance -80) and it may just be that she needs wet heavy ground conditions to be at her best. A stripes draw may also help. But it's the ease back into this A4 class that mark's her down as a potential winner - she went 13 races in A3 before the grader relented and dropped her down again, a sure sign that he feels she is well up to winning in this grade.
Katie Scarlett, Nottingham A4
