The Punter's picks for the Open de France and Buick Open
More than ten picks from the two Tours' big events for our golf betting diarist
Off to Paris this week on the European Tour for the Open de France and it's one of those weeks when I haven't a strong fancy.
My main bet is Ian Poulter. He has form around Le Golf National, used again for the seventh successive year and he'll be very keen to start banking some Ryder Cup points. He could be a bit of value @ [34.0].
I couldn't desert a couple of last week's selections. Both Robert Jan Derksen and John Bickerton showed up very well in Germany and also have form here, Bickerton winning the event two years ago. They've been backed @ [65.0] and [70.0] respectfully.
I've also backed Francesco Molinari @ [95.0] and purely on price, Richard Sterne @ [90.0]. He's not been in great form lately but he's already won an event this year and was a shorter price than this for the Open last year.
Finally, I've backed two former winners at big prices, Jean-Francois Remesy @ [230.0] and Paul Broadhurst @ [340.0].
Selections:
Ian Poulter @ [34.0]
Robert-Jan Derksen @ [65.0]
John Bickerton @ [70.0]
Richard Sterne @ [90.0]
Francesco Molinari @ [95.0]
Jean-Francois Remesy @ [230]
Paul Broadhurst @ [340.0]
The Buick Open is this week's PGA Tour event and I'm also struggling to find a selection to get excited about here.
The Buick has had some very decent winners in recent years, with Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and Jim Furyk taking the title in the five years between 2002 and 2006 but the event was moved from its August slot last year and it seems to have had a detrimental effect on the quality of the field.
The three market leaders this week, Furyk, Kenny Perry and Justin Leonard are all previous winners but though their chances are obvious I can't commit to any of them at their somewhat prohibitive odds.
My first bet is another previous winner and is also someone I backed last week. Woody Austin, backed @ [65.0] was poor last week and missed the cut but he could be a bit of value if he can get back in the groove here at one of his favourite courses.
My next two picks have bits of course form and are in decent nick this year. John Rollins @ [80.0] and recent Players' Championship runner-up, Paul Goydos @ [120.0] seem a tad large in price to me.
And finally, a couple of big priced rags. John Daly @ [590.0] wasn't awful in Germany last week and is suited to the wide fairways and low scoring here. While another chance is given to Brett Rumford this week, I've backed him at a massive [990.0].
Selections:
Woody Austin @ [65.0]
John Rollins @ [80.0]
Paul Goydos @ [120.0]
John Daly @ [590.0]
Brett Rumford @ [990.0]
