A smattering of old boys and a nutcase for Steven as he attempts to keep the US Open momentum swinging
It's often hard to get motivated after a major but I usually enjoy both this week's events and, buoyed by a decent run, I'm looking forward to getting back in the saddle on Thursday.
The European event is the BMW International, held for the 12th successive year at the 'roll off the tongue' Golfclub München Eichenried, Munich.
It's been a bit of a birdie fest over the years but they have tried to toughen it up a bit recently and last year's winning total of -13 by Fasth was considerably higher than some of the previous winning totals. When Daly won in 2001 it was with a staggeringly low -27 total.
My main pick is rejuvenated veteran Miguel Angel Jimenez @ [19.0]. He's already won twice this year, was in the mix last week in California, and won this tournament four years ago.
He's accompanied by a smattering of long shots, about which I'm hopeful as opposed to confident.
Selections:
Miguel Angel Jimenez @ [19.0]
Robert-Jan Derksen @ [100.0]
Simon Wakefield @ [150.0]
John Daly @ [200.0]
Peter Hedblom @ [200.0]
Alvaro Quiros Garcia [260.0]
John Bickerton @ [270.0]
Marc Warren @ [280.0]
The Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, Connecticut has a few past winners in attendance and my first pick is the most recent. Last years winner Hunter Mahan, backed @ [23.0], bids to emulate Phil Mickelson's feat in 2002 and defend the title.
I'm not a massive Mahan fan and feel he's often under priced but after a decent week at Torrey Pines and given he was runner-up here in 2006 as well I think the price is fair.
Second up is Kenny Perry, backed @ [20.0]. Kenny sat out last week to recharge his aging batteries but prior to that he'd been very hot. He's got a decent record here also and has held his form well in the past.
In addition to my main picks I've backed another previous winner in the shape of my favourite nutcase Woody Austin @ [60.0].
A few others nearly made the portfolio and might yet do in-running. Ryan Moore, Chad Campbell (who's apparently carrying a lower back injury) and even Japanese veteran Shigeki Maruyama all got my attention on course form but you can't back them all.
Selections:
Hunter Mahan @ [23.0]
Kenny Perry @ [20.0]
Woody Austin @ [60.0]
