Roger Chapman

Roger Chapman

Roger took up the game of golf at the age of 10. He played the amateur circuit for five years, winning the prestigious Lytham Trophy and the English Amateur. He went on to play in the Walker Cup in 1981, winning three of his four matches (beating Hal Sutton twice in one day).

Roger turned Professional at the end of 1981 and gained his Tour card by finishing second at the Tour School. To date he has played in 617 Tour events in 24 years, second only to Sam Torrance. He has had one win in Europe, three worldwide victories and 15 second place finishes. Roger is now practicing hard for the Seniors Tour when he will join in May 2009.

Outside of playing, Roger has been a commentator on Radio 5Live for the past two years, working with the golf team at the last two Opens. His media background goes back to 1982 when he used to report on golf events via a live feed to World Service Radio in his youth. He has also written for Golf World, interviewed for all the major newspapers during his heyday and been an integral part of the SKY sports golf team covering national and international events on the European Tour.
