Find Me a 100 Winner: Zurich Classic
Paul Krishnamurty is backing the merits of a tour wins virgin to sneak a victory from a long price in Lousiana. Evaluate his logic here.
On the two previous occasions that the Zurich Classic was played at TPC Louisiana, the winner started the event in triple figures. Furthermore, the victories of Tim Petrovic in 2005 and Nick Watney last year represented a breakthrough first-time PGA Tour win for both. The player I'm backing this week has a similar profile, [140.0] chance Jeff Quinney.
Quinney has shown enough over the last 18 months to suggest that he will be winning sooner or later, and strikes me as one of the best players yet to land a title. The 29 year-old from Arizona certainly has what it takes to win an event, as three victories on the Nationwide and Canadian Tours show. In honesty, he really should have won one by now. In last year's FBR Open, he traded at very short odds-on before a late visit to the water and an inspired finish from Aaron Baddeley combined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Another good winning chance came last month at Riviera Country Club in the Northern Trust Open. Quinney matched Phil Mickelson blow for blow over the the first three and a half rounds before his obviously superior and more experienced rival took control on the back-nine. Most of Quinney's best golf has come on courses where the greens in regulation stat was of paramount importance, and previous results at TPC Louisiana suggest this is very much the case here.
