Its becoming hard to keep up with the seemingly endless conveyor belt of brilliant young golfers on the European Tour. No sooner had I decided that Martin Kaymer was the 'Next Big Thing' then along comes Rory Mcllroy and we're not just thinking about future Ryder Cup stars but openly speculating whether Britain has a teenager who could go on to displace Tiger Woods at the top. Without raining on Rory's parade - he does look a quite astonishing talent - but his emergence has somewhat stolen the limelight from several other emerging prospects.

None more so than Surrey-based Ross Fisher. Lets not forget that it's less than two months since Fisher won the KLM Open for his first European Tour title. He proved over that weekend that he has the temperament to cope with the lead and the ability to produce his best under pressure, but that Dutch success was by no means the first time he'd taken the eye.

Earlier in his short career, Fisher had impressed in the Far East, South Africa and particularly the 2006 Irish Open where he was in contention all the way, amongst a world-class leaderboard on a tough golf course. A new peak was reached in the 'Middle-East swing' earlier this year, when Fisher went toe-to-toe with Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Henrik Stenson at the Dubai Desert Classic.

His nerveless performance that weekend won compliments from Woods himself, so it wasn't such a surprise to see him win in Holland despite the massive odds on offer that week. Those odds were testament to Fisher's obvious inconsistency rather than a lack of talent, a trait that I'm always prepared to forgive in young players still learning the game. So while he could quite easily miss the cut this week - Fisher hasn't made the top-30 in four starts since Holland - his best is so good that he's well worth chancing to win again at triple-figure odds.
