The stakes are sure to be high not just in the betting arena when the Wyndham Championship takes place in Greensboro, North Carolina, this month.
The tournament is the final event of the regular season and the last chance that players have to score points to determine their seeding or force their way up the standings before the knockout stage of the FedExCup begins.
Davis Love III returns to Forest Oaks Country Club - which he helped re-design - to defend the title he won for the second time by two shots from Jason Gore last year and the odds on him defending his crown will have been reduced by his encouraging performance at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational tournament.
Love, a native of North Carolina, had endured a miserable three years before his triumph 12 months ago and he had similar problem earlier this season, when his touch deserted him on the putting greens.
But the American Ryder Cup star showed he is close to returning to his best by finishing tied for sixth place in a world-class field at the Bridgestone event and could be a good bet at Greensboro.
KJ Choi, champion two years ago, has already won twice on the PGA Tour in 2007 and he is expected to be among the favourites in the Wyndham Championship betting, after his victories at the Memorial and AT and T tournaments and impressive display at The Open Championship.
Golfers from the Far East have a good recent record in the tournament with Shigeki Maruyama having won in 2005 and finished runner-up behind Choi, so he could be available at good odds to put up another good showing.
Brent Geiberger surprised many people when he claimed the title three years ago, but he proved last year that the result was no fluke by being in contention until falling away on the final day and he appears an attractive bet at decent odds on a course he clearly likes.
The likes of Scott Verplank and Mark Calcavecchia have both finished runner-up in the event before and they are likely to be popular figures in the betting after enjoying good 2007 seasons to date.
The same applies to Nick Watney and Hunter Mahan, who have both won this year and finished inside the top 12 at the venue last year. Meanwhile it may also pay to follow Australian John Senden, who featured strongly in the first three rounds in 2006 and could be an inviting bet at long odds.
