claimed the scalp of world number one Tiger Woods to march into the quarter-finals of the WGC Match Play Championship in Arizona.
US star Woods, who was beaten by O'Hern in the second round in 2005, had fought back to level the match on the 15th before birdieing the 18th to force extra holes but missed a five-foot putt for victory on the 19th.
O'Hern then sent down a 13-foot birdie putt on the second extra hole to leave Woods reeling.
"It's pretty special. We had a great match on the back nine especially," said left-hander O'Hern. "I was four up after seven which was pretty surprising.
"I knew he was going to come at me with birdies but the key is to stay patient and make pars."
England's Justin Rose and Paul Casey also made it through to the quarter-finals of the tournament in Dove Mountain after victories over Charles Howell III (3&2) and Shaun Micheel (by two holes) respectively.
Casey will now play holder Geoff Ogilvy, while Rose faces Trevor Immelman.
Australia's O'Hern remains the outsider to win the tournament despite his shock win over Woods and is trading at 12.5, while Sweden's Henrik Stenson, who beat Aaron Baddeley (4&3), is the favourite at 5.3.
Casey is available at 5.8 while countryman Rose is trading at 8.4.
