Can Lee Westwood bring home the Chubby Slam?
"It would be a remarkable achievement for the stable to hold all four majors at the same time but Chandler is not without a hope - McIlroy, Schwartzel and Westwood are the bedrocks of a strong team."
Chubby Chandler is chasing a remarkable achievement - managing all four major champions at the same time after golfers from his stable landed this year's Masters, US Open and Opens - so can he do it? Joe Dyer takes a look
The 2011 USPGA Championship offers larger-than-life golf manager Chubby Chandler the chance of a major grand slam following wins for three of his stable at The Masters, US Open and Open.
Chandler sends a small squadron of players stateside for a tilt at the USPGA with Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Charl Schwartzel heading a team that also includes Darren Clarke, Richard Finch, David Horsey, David Howell, Ross McGowan, Louis Oosthuizen, Jeev Milkha Singh, Simon Wakefield and Chris Wood.
And Betfair customers can bet on whether Chandler makes it a clean sweep of the majors in 2011 by getting involved in the Chubby Slam? market.
Trading has been light but 'no', as expected, is heavily odds-on at [1.14] with 'yes' available to back at around [4.0].
It would be a remarkable achievement for the stable to hold all four majors at the same time but Chandler is not without a hope - McIlroy, Schwartzel and Westwood are the bedrocks of a strong team.
However, concerns would have to be raised about the current form of the last two Open champions Clarke and Oosthuizen, neither of whom have excelled at the ongoing WGC Bridgestone-Invitational.
Of the rest, victory would come as a major shock with only Singh crossing the winning line with any regularity.
Nevertheless, in what has been a golden year and with a handful of the big guns - including tournament favourite McIlroy - Chandler could just be reflecting on a very good year come Sunday night in Atlanta.
