Michel Sim in action at the US Open
"I’m prepared to overlook the recent missed cut; the Scottish born Aussie has a massive future, has proven he can handle the pressure of a Major and owes me nothing."
Steve goes for a repeat win with a Scottish born Aussie...
When Lucas Glover held his nerve to win the US Open, beating, amongst others, my main pick Phil Mickelson, my disappointment was eased by the fact that I'd had a decent enough bet on Michael Sim to be the Top Australian at an average of [18.0] - enough to make a reasonable overall profit on the week, so I've looked at his chances again.
There are a few more Aussies playing this week and one or two of them, notably Robert Allenby and Rod Pampling, appear to be in better shape than they were two months ago. The enigma that is Geoff Ogilvy hasn't threatened since though, but Adam Scott has managed a 4th place in Scotland since his 36th placed finish in New York.
Nathan Green has broken his duck by winning in Canada, John Senden has been in decent form lately and veteran Steve Elkington can't be ruled out in an event he won at Riviera way back in 1995 and in which he always plays well, but all things considered Sim's worth chancing again here.
After his 18th place in New York, where he was paired with Tiger Woods on the final day, he took a month's break before returning to action at the Cox Classic in Omaha, where, after sharing the 54- hole lead, he finished in a tie for 5th. So maybe the pressure got to him? And that could explain the missed cut the week later too.
I'm prepared to overlook the recent missed cut; the Scottish born Aussie has a massive future, has proven he can handle the pressure of a Major and owes me nothing.
