Lee Westwood with the St Jude Classic trophy - he trades at 13.5 to repeat at Pebble Beach this week

"Westwood is in a remarkable patch of form and goes into the US Open as the clear [13.5] third favourite."

A heartbreaking final hole meltdown from US journeyman Robert Garrigus hands Westwood a second chance at the St Jude Classic which the Englishman takes

US Open third favourite Lee Westwood was a winner the weekend before the year's second major - but there was no way he should have lifted the St Jude Classic trophy. The Englishman owed his success to a remarkable meltdown by American journeyman Robert Garrigus who hit a triple bogey on the final hole when holding a three-shot lead.

Unsurprisingly, Betfair punters were queueing up to back him before his 72nd hole blunder and more than £10,000 was traded on at the exchange's lowest odds of [1.01]. Those customers who took the low price had to watch as Garrigus - the world no.377 - hit his tee shot into water before smashing his third into trees. He then chipped out, hit his fifth to the green and two-putted for a triple bogey seven.

That unbelievable sequence of events took the tournament to a play-off which Westwood won after outlasting Robert Karlsson and Garrigus. The English golfer is in a remarkable patch of form and goes into the US Open as the clear [13.5] third favourite. Only Tiger Woods ([8.2]) and Phil Mickelson ([8.4]) are ahead of Westwood in the betting. Karlsson, who made headlines recently with a record-breaking round at Wentworth, trades at [80.0].
