Atmosphere and adrenaline will drive world number one

Despite admittnig that he has not fuilly recovered from the knee injury which has kept him out for the last two months, Tiger Woods insists he is ready to challenge for the US Open crown.

The world number one goes into the Open, which begins tomorrow at Torrey Pines, without the benefit of a warm-up tournament but Woods is confident of his chances on what has been descrbied as a "gruelling course."

He said: "I'm excited about getting out there and getting into the flow and getting the adrenaline flying."

Woods believes that the atmosphere created by the occasion, the players and the crowd will be enough to detract from any lingering injury doubts.

He said: "It's a matter of getting into the flow of the round and the competitive atmosphere and playing well."

The 108th US Open begins at Torrey Pines tomorrow. Two times champion Tiger Woods is the [4.5] favourite while fellow American Phil Mickelson is [10.5.]. Sergio Garcia is [24.0] while Padraig Harrington is [25.0].
