US Open Betting: Experts disagree over course and Woods

Bill Elliot thinks Tiger may miss the cut. Paul Way anticipates a Woods win.

Two golfing authorities underlined the intrigue surrounding the US Open by giving contrasting views on the Torrey Pines course and the fitness of Tiger Woods.

Former-European Ryder Cup Team player Paul Way believes the Torrey Pines course poses a considerable challenge to players at the U.S Open.

He said: "It's incredible how long the USGA are growing the course. You have to be long and accurate. Because they set the courses up so hard, the US Open is a game of patience.

But Observer golf columnist Bill Elliot thinks the USGA have mellowed in their course design in recent years: "The USGA have actually throttled back on the severity of the course."

The pair also disagree on Tiger Woods' prospects at the tournament.

Elliot said: "Logic dictates that there is a decent chance of him missing the cut. He says he is ready but Tiger is often economical with the truth. I would seriously back against Woods. I absolutely do think he could miss the cut."

Paul Way is looking forward to more success for the world number one. He said: "He is going to be very, very fresh.
