Perhaps harshly due to the weight of early expectations, the jury is out on McIlroy, especially after spectacularly blowing a big lead at the Masters. For all his talent and stack of high finishes, Rory has still only won twice, coming from miles back in one and doing his best to throw away the other. Nevertheless, he remains a class act with a long game to die for and has contended in the last three majors. Were he to win the US Open, McIlroy would be only the third player since 1976 to do so after fewer than three tries.
